Google Voice is just one of many factors that will fundamentally change phone service. While the article says this change will happen immediately, I predict instead that changes will take five years. Change will be caused by the internet as a phone service, by HD Voice, and by open source software.
It is perhaps counter-intuitive that as all these business challenges are manifesting, the phone companies will continue to raise prices, but that's what's happening.
