New Arrests for Illegal VoIP | |

Two Asian people were arrested in Ruwi for breaking the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) rules by offering international calls illegally via VoIP services.
The Directorate General of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations put these two persons under arrest and confiscated the devices they deployed, and recovered cash received for illegal services as well.
The accused people were detained after getting a tip-off concerning the sale of illegal international phone cards.
The police seized all the equipment for providing international calls: computers, phones and modems. The accused were sent to the prosecution for questioning in preparation for the court.
A statement from the ROP said that “providing telecommunications services in the form of international calls over Internet Protocol without a license, contrary to the provisions of Article (20) of the TRA, is illegal.”
