NETWORK EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGIES SUCCESSFULLY DEMONSTRATES INTEROPERABILITY WITH GENERAL DYNAMICS SECURE TELEPHONY DEVICES | |
16 July 2009
The Nation's Only Secure Desk Phone for Both VoIP and PSTN, the Sect?ra® vIPerTM Secure Phone, Will Soon Operate With Analog and Cellular Networks
Fremont, CA, July 16 2009 -
Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. ("NET") (NASDAQ: NWK) announced today the completion of preliminary interoperability testing between its VX series and General Dynamics secure telephony devices.
Successful testing with NET's VX series of integrated switch gateways demonstrates the Sect?ra vIPer Secure Phone's ability to communicate between IP networks and secure communications devices on analog networks. This means users of the soon-to-be-released Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) version of vIPer can communicate with hundreds of thousands of existing analog products.
Specifically, the testing used NET's VX900 with the V.150 Universal Modem Relay technology to demonstrate interoperability with the following:
• SIP vIPer with secure wireless devices such as the Sect?ra Edge™ Smartphone and the Sect?ra Secure GSM phone over a number of cellular carriers' networks;
• SIP vIPer to the PSTN vIPer;
• SIP vIPer to the Secure Terminal Equipment (STE);
• SIP vIPer to the Sect?ra Wireline Terminal.
In 2006, the Sect?ra vIPer phone was certified by the National Security Agency (NSA) to protect information classified Top Secret and Below over Skinny Call Control Protocol (SCCP) VoIP networks for authorized U.S. military and government users. Certification by the NSA of the Sect?ra vIPer for use over SIP VoIP networks is expected later this year. In January 2009, the PSTN capability of the Sect?ra vIPer phone was also certified by the NSA.
"This technology will enable interoperability with secure voice devices and legacy equipment as more customers migrate to SIP phones, softphones and PC-based voice devices," said Talbot Harty, chief development officer for NET.
NET is a market leader in sales of reliable, efficient, and robust VoIP communications devices providing secure telephony capabilities over IP networks. The V.150 capability, when combined with the VX Series' existing ability to support TDM-based Secure Communications Interoperability Protocol (SCIP) phones, enables instant interoperability between old and new technologies. Further, NET's V.150 solution includes the company's Bestflow frame-packing technique, which allows VoIP to traverse firewalls, while providing bandwidth-saving capabilities and numerous features that protect the reliability of secure telephony over IP.
