NETWORK EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGIES TO SUPPORT THE DUBAI EXECUTIVE COUNCIL’S MIGRATION TO UNIFIED COMMUNICATIONS
| |
24 June 2009
Network Equipment Technologies, Inc. (“NET”, NASDAQ: NWK) announced today that the Dubai Executive Council is deploying NET’s VX Series to enable its move from a traditional hardware-based voice system to a software-powered voice solution. The Dubai Executive Council (DEC) is responsible for the formulation and implementation of federal regulations and local laws; preparation of annual budgets along with development plans; and coordination between various local departments.
NET’s VX Series was placed in front of the DEC’s existing PBX, thus enabling DEC to bring voice services in-house and build a secure and reliable network that would support the seamless deployment of a Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 (OCS) environment throughout the organization. The DEC expects to grow the number of users in the future.
Working with the Dubai office of IDC, an Italian integrator and Microsoft Voice Certified Partner, NET’s VX Series was tested and implemented throughout the DEC’s network. The trial initially involved “front ending” the PBX without added functionality, during which no users noticed any difference in operation. After the successful completion of this test, some of the DEC’s OCS users were migrated off the PBX and calls in all directions were tested, along with fail-over of all components. IDC performed the testing with a dual resilient solution, including dual mediation servers, dual VX 1200 gateways, and PBX/PSTN connections split over the two VX 1200 nodes, eliminating any single point of failure. In this configuration, even in the highly unlikely event a VX node fails, the other switches on the network automatically take on the call-processing load. The DEC implemented a final solution utilizing the VX1800, which features a high-availability and high-capacity design.
With OCS deployed on the VX 1800, the DEC’s users can tie into the system from anywhere and obtain full functionality. This was especially appealing to DEC because in the case of natural disasters, workers often have to be relocated. With the distributed nature of the VX, it is easy to reroute calls and continue business as usual.
