18 January 2011

In comparison with most of Middle Eastern countries, telecommunications sector in Jordan is rather prosperous characterized by healthy competition. Research and Markets recently has published a report concerning the details of country’s operators in the sector.
Jordan is country with relatively well-developed telecoms market: mobile penetration is about 100%.
The telecom market is one of the most liberalized in the region. Orange Jordan (JTG) has been privatized, so France Telecom has a controlling share of 51%.
Competition is welcomed in all sectors. As for the fixed-line sector different operators have received licenses but mostly companies offer VoIP services, and the competition consists in the long-distance voice market. The broadband market is also characterized by competition, despite JTG’s ISP demonstrates a 50% market share.
WiMAX operators are on the way to penetrate the market, with more than 17% market share of the small broadband market at the end of 2009. For example, Mada Communications offers customers free unlimited VoIP calls to other Mada users, also company provides competitive rates for international VoIP calls.
