Google Pretends on Nortel's Patents
| |
6 April 2011
Google officially stated that the company had set a bid on assets of a bankrupt company -for complete portfolio of Nortel Networks. According to the Financial Post, Nortel revealed that Google’s bid is $900 million.
Nortel has about 4,000 patents related to several telecom and technology suites, a wide portfolio that represents the last large asset that the bankrupt company has put for sale. Other large companies are also interested in buying Nortel’s portfolio: ZTE, Huawei and Apple are on the run for Nortel's LTE patents.
Kent Walker, the senior VP of Google, commented that buying Nortel's patent portfolio represents a defensive step of the company to stave off patent litigation.
