1 June 2011

Reuters recently announced that the US telecoms regulator the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has demanded that AT&T should provide more information about its planned acquisition of T-Mobile USA. The FCC required detailed information concerning spectrum shortages and coverage overlaps as well as any potential plans to close surplus facilities.
In March AT&T stated that the company concluded an agreement with Deutsche Telekom, German telecoms group, to acquire T-Mobile USA unit. The acquisition is valued at about $39 billion.
In April filing AT&T stated that the company ‘faces network spectrum and capacity constraints more severe than those of any other wireless provider’. Anyway, to move forward AT&T should submit formal comments to the FCC. To complete the acquisition AT&T must receive the approval from the FCC.
