28 June 2011

Google has announced that the company had moved Google Talk VoIP infrastructure to Jingle that represents the voice and media signaling protocol that can provide an open-standard alternative to the protocols deployed by the Microsoft-owned Skype and other VoIP companies.
According to the company’s officials, the company now supports the Jingle XEP-166 and XEP-167 protocols for Google Talk calling to and from Gmail, iGoogle, and Orkut, the Brazil-friendly social network.
Jingle will be Google's primary signaling protocol, but the company will keep an old protocol for backwards compatibility.
Moreover, Google has added the same support to libjingle that represents the Voice and P2P Interoperability Library employed by many Google Talk native clients.
The company plans to update the Google Talk Android client to Jingle, but will not move the Windows client. On Windows Google can challenge MicroSkype solely via the browser.
