France Telecom Pretends to Purchase ZTE's share in Congo China Telecom
| |
19 July 2011
France Telecom entered discussion with ZTE Corp. to buy the Chinese company's 51% share in Congo China Telecom, one of largest mobile operators in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This step demonstrates a France telecom’s continued move from the saturated European market to the new opening telco frontiers across Africa and the Middle East.
The carrier bought a 20%-share in Iraq's Korek Telecom in March, and 40% of Morocco's Meditel. France Telecom now operates in Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Kenya.
The Congo's government noted that France Telecom's offers are "very advanced." ZTE didn’t comment on the situation.
