Google Announced Rollout of Google Voice in the UK Google Announced Rollout of Google Voice in the UKGoogle Announced Rollout of Google Voice in the UK

4 August 2011

Now Gmail users across the UK are able to make low-cost calls from their email client to mobile phones and landlines. Google has officially announced rollout of VoIP calls from within Gmail across the UK.
Prior to this announcement, it was possible to make free Gmail-to-Gmail calls across the UK, but Google recently stated in a blog post that for the first time the company is opening the paid-for Google Voice functionality to company’s clients outside the US. The US residents had this functionality available since last year.
According to the company’s officials, users can buy calling credit in four currencies (US Dollars, Euros, British pounds, or Canadian dollars); there are no connection fees – users pay only for the duration of the call. The service is available in 38 languages.
Google Apps users need to get their domain administrators in order to empower Google Voice and Google Checkout to use the service.
With this move Google became a stronger competitor to Skype, a VoIP giant, that is the world's leading VoIP provider at present time.
