Mitel and VMware Introduced Virtual Desktop Voice Solution Mitel and VMware Introduced Virtual Desktop Voice SolutionMitel and VMware Introduced Virtual Desktop Voice Solution

1 September 2011

Mitel Networks, a provider of UC applications, and VMware, a virtualization specialist, have recently unveiled a new virtual desktop voice solution.
VMware has developed a new API (app programming interface) specifically for the interface of the company’s View desktop virtualization software, and Mitel has rewritten company’s Unified Communicator softphones in order to make voice and video traffic stream directly to endpoints.
The solution is not unique as any telephony developer can benefit from the API, however, VMware has decided to work with Mitel first. Moreover, the solution will not be commercially available until trials with customers.
VMware plans demonstration of the solution at the annual VMware WMWorld conference.
According to the officials, the new VMware API can be useful in contact centers with hundreds of staff working with virtual desktops. Companies have discovered that in such environments networks wouldn’t handle the voice traffic of numerous people online at the same time. The issue can be overcome with new softphones as Mitel softphone should be compatible with most versions of the company’s UC platforms.
