According to the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 US Residential TV Service Satisfaction Study, the growth in residential television service revenues is driven by greater penetration of DVR hardware and additional viewing services.
DVR subscriptions for cable TV service have grown to 45% in 2011 in comparison with 38% in 2010. For satellite TV service, 64% in 2011 have DVR boxes in comparison with 59% in 2010. Moreover, the proportion of customers with more than one DVR box has significantly increased.
The research reveals that video-on-demand was a bright spot for service providers in 2011 as well. The viewership of VOD increased to 39% from 35% in 2010 among cable subscribers; to 18% from 16% among satellite subscribers.
The 2011 US Residential TV Service Satisfaction Study was based on answers from 23,880 respondents nationwide. The study was conducted in 4 waves: November 2010, January 2011, April 2011 and July 2011.
