Microsoft Completed Acquisition of Skype Microsoft Completed Acquisition of SkypeMicrosoft Completed Acquisition of Skype

17 October 2011

Only six days after the EU approval for acquisition of Skype, Microsoft has announced that the VoIP giant will become a new business division within Microsoft. Now Microsoft welcomes the real-time communications company and its staff all over the world.

Skype will not be significantly affected by the acquisition; company’s CEO Tony Bates will stay as the head of Skype team but he will assume the position of president of the Skype Division of Microsoft, directly reporting to Steve Ballmer, the Microsoft CEO.
According to Microsoft, the Skype division will offer its current products to users worldwide.
Moreover, Skype services will be integrated into a several Microsoft’s products, increasing the company’s offerings and uptake of the Skype service.
This acquisition is still pending approval in several countries but now Skype is officially a Microsoft company.
