Digium has announced the release of Asterisk 10. Asterisk represents a communications platform that allows creating business phone systems and UC solutions.
The key feature in new Asterisk 10 is the wide-band media engine. The Asterisk’s telephony-grade media engine has been replaced with a more advanced one that provides support for studio-quality audio and numerous codecs.
New Asterisk supports HD and ultra HD voice; therefore, it can be used to power communications apps that require specialized equipment and service. Moreover, Digium has updated media support for Asterisk 10 with several new codecs such as 32 kHz Speex support, Skype’s SILK codec and pass-through support for CELT.
Asterisk 10 was officially introduced at AstriCon, the Asterisk User Conference & Expo.
Among the new capabilities of asterisk 10 there are: new media engine; more codecs; additional sampling rates; new conferencing app; support for videoconferencing; new fax capabilities; text message routing.
