The recent report stated that US residents are increasingly using video VoIP services.

The Pew Research Center's Internet & American Life Project has revealed that 19% of American adults have tried the technology on their computer or mobile phone.

Moreover, 23% of US internet users have now used a video calling service, comparing with 20% in 2009.

Video calling has become increasingly available as camcorders have spread through the online environment, cameras have been built into smart phones, and as video-chat services like Skype, Google Talk, and Apple iChat have become a feature of the online and smart phone environment," the report said.

"Teleconferencing is also becoming more embedded in the business environment."

According to the study, younger internet users are more likely to have used video calling, with 29% of 18-29 year-olds trying the technology compared to just 15% of those aged 65 and older.
