 Skype API Rolled Out

Skype intends to broaden usage of the company’s free VOIP service by rolling out a video-call API that is available to developers as part of company’s SkypeKit collection of programmer software.
SkypeKit was opened first earlier this summer in order to promote Skype to the consumer electronics industry. This move was met by requests from developers who wanted to allow for the development of desktop apps with integrated Skype functionality.
The new API can be custom-modified and inserted into desktop apps and consumer electronics apps. With the rollout of the Developer Preview of SkypeKit 4.02, the company’s developer team claimed that it begins to extend the developer initiative in order to include desktop apps. The team said that developers can now integrate Skype into Windows, Mac, and Linux desktop app in two ways:
• SkypeKit for Desktop
• Skype Desktop API
The Skype team later noted that their focus on bringing Skype's functionality to desktop apps “is the introduction of Video APIs to the new SkypeKit for Desktop.” These Video APIs allows developers bringing desktop apps to life using video calling.
