13 November 2011

The OpenTouch video conferencing suite from Alcatel-Lucent was scheduled to start shipping in the first quarter of 2012; but the company has announced that the conferencing suite had arrived earlier, and is now available.
The product is built on Alcatel-Lucent's Enterprise's converged communications architecture; the OpenTouch product leverages Genesys SIP solutions, OmniPCX Enterprise and Alcatel-Lucent carrier technologies.
The OpenTouch architecture deploys a SIP-based conversation layer to deliver multi-device, multi-party, multi-media collaborative conversations. This architecture is able to facilitate conversations on any end-point and on any network.
OpenTouch provides native conferencing capabilities, enables users to move between devices within a conversation, and supports mixed media. For instance, a conversation can begin via instant messaging, voice or text, and be escalated to a video call or team collaboration session. The system lets any user easily add or remove multiple participants as well as make other media connections or links available to participants.
The company offers this product in three packages, an appliance server based version - its Business Edition; a hosted edition on a blade server platform - its Business Edition Hosted; and its Multimedia Services.
