iiNet Announced Acquisition of TransACT iiNet Announced Acquisition of TransACTiiNet Announced Acquisition of TransACT

21 November 2011

iiNet, an Australian competitive ISP, has announced acquisition of TransACT, Canberra-based service provider, for $81.5 million. Now the company is on the final stages to purchase TransACT, significantly enhancing company’s position as the third ISP after incumbent Telstra and SingTel Optus.
Telegeography reports that after about two months of negotiations, iiNet is completing due diligence on the acquisition.
Upon the completion of the acquisition, iiNet will receive TransACT's 300 employees and 80,000 customers, as well as fiber and cable assets in Victoria and Canberra.
This acquisition provides iiNet with a presence in the corporate and government services sector. Moreover, it will give Canberra customers one more communications provider choice besides Telstra and Optus.
Since 2008, iiNet has made several acquisitions: ISP Westnet (2008), Netspace (March 2010), and Telecom New Zealand's consumer operations of the Australian subsidiary AAPT (July 2010).
