Foundation Telecommunications (FTI) has officially stated that the TIPS/TAPS purchasing consortium had chosen the company to provide VoIP and broadband Internet services to member educational institutions and government agencies.
Additionally, TIPS/TAPS made the award throughout a competitive bid process.
The FTI two-way satellite service is specifically designed to provide high-speed reliable Internet and telephone services to geographically isolated schools, libraries and other entities, which have difficulties to contract for Internet services from other providers.
Satellite installations from FTI represent multi-purpose educational telecoms gateways for rural schools; they provide immediate access to Internet, educational TV programming and free long distance telephone calls. The FTI satellite Internet installation enables provision of telephone service using "Foundation Fone" VoIP technology along with free long distance calls across the US. Moreover, the installation offers access to the 8 channels of SCOLA educational foreign broadcast services currently viewed by more than 10 million students nationwide.
