 US Postal Service Chose Verizon as Its Prime Contractor

The US Postal Service has chosen Verizon as its prime contractor in the Telecommunications Integrated Postal Services contract.
Under the terms of a six-year contract that is valued at $186 million and expands a long-standing partnership between the Post Service and Verizon, Verizon will continue planning, designing, installing and managing a private, converged IP communications network based on MPLS that provides support to many aspects of the U.S. mail system and serves as a foundation for future technologies.
The Postal Service deploys the network to deliver the mail cost-effectively and efficiently; inform and manage over 550,000 employees; collect and distribute data and documents; stay current on the latest internal developments; point of sale operations; and augment customer service efforts at over 31,000 Postal Service locations.
Verizon had already provided many of the network services under the company's MNS contract with the agency. Verizon provides the Postal Service with various services, including telepresence HD videoconferencing and satellite services.
