The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) intends to make the nation's 9-1-1 systems more resilient and reliable by requiring interconnected VoIP service providers to report serious network outages that meet some specific criteria and thresholds.
These new rules can help guarantee that the country's critical communications infrastructure is available in times of crisis.
The FCC is going to use outage reports for tracking and analyzing information on interconnected VoIP outages that affect 9-1-1 service and decide whether an action is required to prevent future outages.
The FCC's Report and Order determines outage reporting for interconnected VoIP service, as well as establishes reporting criteria and thresholds. It also discusses the ways the reporting process should work, and what information should be reported.
