TDS Has brought 25 Mbps VDSL2 service in seven states
| |
12 December 2010
TDS is the latest ILEC to continue the life of its existing copper network with a new VDSL2-based broadband service.
Offering users 25 Mbps downstream and 5 Mbps upstream for $70 a month, the service will be first available in seven states, including Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, Tennessee, Vermont, and Wisconsin.
In Q1 2011, TDS plans to expand VDSL2 service availability into an additional 13 states.
Feeling pressure from local cable operators and municipal fiber providers, TDS has also decreased the price of its 15 Mbps and 5 Mbps DSL speed tier from $54.95 and $49.95 a month to $34.95 and $19.95 a month.
While it has taken the same conservative stance that AT&T and Qwest have with the migration of their last mile network, TDS has been striking back at municipal-based FTTH-based networks such as Monticello, Minn.'s FiberNet Monticello FTTH network.
