16 January 2011

The results of recent survey from National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA) demonstrated that cloudy regulatory environment connected with FCC's national broadband plan may threaten rising of broadband in rural communities.
The "NTCA 2010 Broadband/Internet Availability Survey Report" revealed that broadband service provider members witnessed growth in broadband subscribership from 38% in 2009 to 55%.
Many of respondents – service providers – shared their concerns about possible negative influence of NBP on their business.
For delivering broadband to their clients, 94 of respondents offering broadband use DSL, 68% deploy either Fiber to the Home (FTTH) or Fiber to the Curb (FTTC). Despite rather expensive deployment of last mile fiber in rural areas, in 2010 FTTX deployments increased 15% in 2010.
