Ported from PhonePower to another Voip and am so glad I did!

Posted: Sep 21, 2023
The Good:

The Bad:

I was with PhonePower for 5 years and recently "ported" to CallCentric. I am so glad I did! This summer, we learned that our home phone had been ringing busy for over a week and important calls had not gotten through. After much hassle with PP, I researched other Voip providers. Bottom line: I now have superb technical support, excellent custom features, and a much lower bill. Other than getting no calls for weeks, I was unhappy for a long time about other issues. #1: calls going through Nomorobo spam filtering rang once at home before Nomorobo killed spam. Calls that went through had the Callerid screwed up. The PP web interface was always very slow, clunky, and limited options, such as a small limit on blocked numbers, etc. I did not realize that other Voip providers now offer modern, fully customizable features, web gui and mobile apps. The PhonePower billing, rates, and policies are abominable compared to competitive providers. For example, when my credit card expired and got a new expiration date, as they do every few years, I don't think I ever received any notice. If they didn't email, they certainly knew the phone number to call me on! That was 9 months before recent issues and I did solve the billing problem. By the way, the online bills never show a name, jut an address. Which makes it more difficult to port a phone number out. Probably not by accident: "Hotel California" that is easy to get in and a huge pain to check out. Buyer beware. (I did get ported with the help of CallCentric support asking for a screen shot of the payment screen with my name on it). Five years ago PP was the best I could do after Verizon dumped us. Now, not so much.

Long-term customer - still happy

The Bad:

I have been a customer since 2009. The service meets my needs with the main line and a cloned line, giving me the ability to have 2 calls simultaneously. From the beginning I have brought my own adapter (picking it from the list of supported devices). I recently replaced it and discovered that the automated provisioning scripts don't support the setup of the second line. That's okay -- I contacted PhonePower and they put me in touch with one of their technicians who was able to give me enough information so I could manually configure my adapter. Recently (August 2023), I noticed that my adapter showed everything was good but calls weren't coming through (going immediately to voicemail) and then one of the 2 lines became inactive. I contacted support via email and continued to work on the problem (I'm in IT so I don't mind digging into problems and stepping through a reconfiguration process). Using my notes from the manual setup, I got things working again. I also noticed that my firmware on my adapter was significantly out of date and updated it too. I had it fixed before customer support reached out to assist. Things ran well for a number of weeks and then suddenly calls were going directly to voicemail again. That's actually not a bad thing since PhonePower automatically sends a copy of the voice mail to my email. So, I typically screen my calls anyway. To fix it, I have simply unplugged my adapter for a few minutes and then everything works fine -- I can call the house phone from my mobile and everything rings through just fine. I don't know if this is a problem at PhonePower or with my adapter or perhaps my internet provider. I'll dig into it one of these days but it isn't on the top of my list to fix. The amount of spam calls has been reduced by use of NoMoRobo which Phone Power provides free along with good instructions to setup. So, overall, I'm happy with PhonePower. The sound of the calls is excellent; customer service has been responsive and helpful; and it does a pretty good job filtering out spam calls. Some reviewers have reported caller id not working in the past. All I can say is that it has always worked for me since 2009.

I have been a happy PhonePower customer for many years. Yet 2 years ago the caller ID Name stopped working. A very useful feature. A dozen calLs always got the same response: working on the problem, no forecast for resolution. NEVER FIXED. 2 months ago the speed dial add/delete function would in error delete all speed dials. STILL NO FIX. And the website is SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. SUMMATION: they aren't investing in support/upgrades. They don't care. Probably think VOIP phones are going away -- due to ubiquitous use of cell phones. -- and they want to maximize profits by not paying for support functions other that a call center person.

I've been a customer of PhonePower for about six years, and have never had a single problem with call quality. At one point, I was getting a lot of anonymous calls, so I went to the website and blocked them. No problem after that. PhonePower is the best thing happen to VOIP, in my experience.

Terrible service and ever worse Tech support. Have had to call no less than 10 times to get the same issue resolved. Only gets resolved for a week or so and then there it is again. They act like it is all your fault and there is no urgency to correct the issue. How do you have a personal and small business line with them and it takes from Wednesday to Saturday to correct the issue?

Watch out, they auto renew with no notice and will not return any funds should you want to cancel. You cannot not tell them to cancel auto renew unless you call within 30days of the renewal. This happened to me 2X; we all lead busy lives and one must wait over 20 min on hold to even get through to a rep.

Treated like a criminal - Phonepower

Posted: Jul 29, 2015
The Good:

The Bad:

Paid everything up front and barely used their service. After the two years I had a hard time finding the phone hardware because I hadn't used it in a year (and we moved). When I didn't want to continue with their service things went south. Horrible customer service. I tried to work with them but they were bullies. They wanted their hardware back. Ok, that makes sense. Well, I eventually found the equipment and I told them I found it and would send it in. They still put collectors out for me with annoying daily phone calls even though I TOLD THEM I HAD THE EQUIPMENT. I am self employed and I have never treated anyone like that. Shame shame Phone Power. The worst part is that they wanted to charge $99.50 for a box that was clearly less than $40 in cost. Warning to all - don't trust their business practices. They have no concern for anyone but themselves

Substandard quality service, still long way to go - Phone Power

Posted: Dec 21, 2014
The Good:

The Bad:

I am having phonepower service currently. I have two different brand cordless set connected to two lines. The call quality is great, however the service is not reliable. I am not very pleased with the interface setting up call forwarding/simultaneous ringing through web interface. Very confusing and not straight forward. I do not want to have a primary phonepower service. I am not going to renew after 2 year service. Almost every month I see phonepower techincal difficulties such as (out of service for 30 mins or cannot dial toll free numbers). I do not like this kinda interruption. Otherwise, I stayed an hour long interview and then stayed hour long outgoing call and recieved long calls all worked backed to back fine with crystal clear call quality. I have downstream(30mbps) and upstream(3mbps) any given point which is exceptionally good for decent call quality. I will go back to viatalk which is more reliable than phonepower. I would not recommend phonepower right at this time, let them polish up their quality and then worth trying

Happy With PhonePower So Far

Posted: Oct 31, 2014
The Good:

The Bad:

ISP recommended Broadvoice so I went to the website and selected 1 year pre-pay plan. However when you get to the ordering page its changes to PhonePower, after reviewing Phone power I decided to proceed anyway. Equipment arrived in 1 day and was easy to setup but instructions in box do not tell you to put TA in DMZ zone therefore after 20-30 mins of the box flashing and resetting I researched in support and found that you need to put in DMZ to allow unfiltered access to internet. After that the box came up fine and outgoing calls worked. It only took 3 days for my old number to be ported and I was up and running. So far I have been impressed with the quality of service and value for Money, even international calls dialed using iPhone app had great call quality. I really cant tell any difference. Can't believe I have been paying over $50 per month for ATandT landline but needed it for DSL service, but now that I have switched to DSLExtreme's 1Sstream service I can drop the landline. I thinks its criminal that ATandT can charge so much for basic phone service in this day and age with CID/CW but without free long distance or international calling. Hope PhonePower service keeps on working the way it is and I will be very happy, but not sure if I can pre-pay another year next year for low rate or if it will go to monthly. Didn't know about 2 year pre-pay until I came to this website, could have saved more, even if you have to pay taxes for 2nd year. Not sure why some people miss this fact and then complain

Poor Service and Up Time - Phone Power

Posted: Mar 26, 2014
The Good:

The Bad:

I decided to use VOIP service to handle phone service in three offices located in two cities. I started using Vonage VOIP around 2005-2006. I eventually moved off Vonage to Broadvoice and stayed with Broadvoice from around 2006 until 2013. While on Broadvoice I had 5 VOIP lines on a VOIP PBX system which worked great. Let me emphasize that everything worked fine, I had no complaints. Line configuration was straightforward and Broadvoice tech support was great. However, when I tried to add an additional line, Broadvoice stated their equipment couldn't handle that number of lines and required that I switch all my lines to Phone Power - their parent company. I switched to Phone Power over 6 months ago and am NOT happy. In short, the Phone Power VOIP software is hard to configure and calls are not routed properly. Unlike Broadvoice tech support, Phone Power tech support will not help reconfigure my VOIP PBX system to work with the Phone Power service. The manufacturer and tech support of my PBX says the problem is with the SIP settings - a Phone Power issue. Since switching Phone Power hasn't been able to configure my basic phone lines to consistently work. Call routing on my primary business line has been down now for nearly three weeks - incoming calls go nowhere. I have wasted a lot of time trying to get Phone Power to fix the problem. Additionally, the Fax line is a joke - it doesn't work. When I tried to switch back to Broadvoice from Phone Power I was informed by Broadvoice that it was against Phone Power company policy. I have lost a lot of business and clients because of Phone Power. I am now searching for another VOIP provider

After suffering for four years with ACANAC, I finally took some advice from my brother and moved over to Phone Power. What a difference! The people behind the company can actually speak English and are able to string sentences together that make sense. They are very helpful and all that. But the most important thing is that the quality of the hardware and the system itself is so high that it just blows you away. No one can compete with this. This is the perfect service. I hope you never change from this! I will convert everyone I know to this system

Extremely pleased Phone Power

Posted: Sep 23, 2013
The Good:

The Bad:

This is my very first online review but I thought it was worth taking the time to give this company some credit. There are not that many options for inexpensive but reliable service in Canada that could port my home number. When I first signed up for service I had buyer's remorse because I only waited until after ordering to check other people's reviews. There were enough complaints to make me think I made a mistake. I must say that the personable service I have received has been second to none. They have walked me through some of the features (like setting call forwarding rules and the click to call feature) and they tweaked my line because I was getting some initial echoing. I can only guess that those people who are complaining must not have internet service fast enough to handle Voip. Paying up front is a bit of a pain but my justification is that it's like paying 6 months up front with my regular phone company but I'm getting 2 years of service. Not bad at all! Keep up the great work Phone Power. I highly recommend them

Beware of Hidden Costs! Phone Power

Posted: Aug 05, 2013
The Good:

The Bad:

Beware of their so-called 2-year plan for "$199.99 or $8.33 per month". What they won't tell you is that the 1 cost, after adding various charges for hardware, PandP, fees and taxes, several of which are not even explained, is closer to $400 or $16.67 per month. Before locking in into a 2-year plan with the risks of losing all your pre-paid funds if the company goes out of existence within the period, I would strongly advise the buyer to check for monthly plans that are more transparent and honest in their pricing process. Ask about all hidden charges and fees and be sure these are justifiable before concluding their plan is cheaper than others based on the listed price alone. Many of the so-called charges and fees are not even explained so you cannot even be sure they are legit but once you have signed on your options become thinner. You sign on with this Company believing that once you've paid $199.99, you can then relax for the next 24 months and not have to worry about phone bills, right? Wrong! The $199.99 is nothing other than a standard bait-and-switch tactic and the surprises start even before you pay when fees and charges immediately add almost $90 to your first payment. The second year, you are hit with even higher fees and charges, this time with absolutely no explanation or details. Tough luck for your financial planning if you haven't anticipated and planned for this. Sadly, by then you have no option other than a no-refund cancellation and losing all of your second year prepaid expenses

I will be using the service to make both domestic and international calls with little or no extra cost which is very convenient. I love it. I miss Broadvoice, Phone Power is Horrible! Don't use them yet!

Posted: Apr 12, 2013
The Good:

The Bad:

When a company acquires another company, you might think that good things are about to happen, innovation, new features, great customer service, etc. Well did not happen when PhonePower acquired Broadvoice which I had for 7 years and not intention of going anywhere. However in the past several months Phonepower is making me so angry!! The service now constantly fails, when I call to fix it they always take your number for the Tier 2 to call you back, as if you are always going to be next to the phone when they call. I happened to be out twice when they called and they could not do anything. Every other week the service disrupts, now after messing with my account for 1:32 minutes, they had to call me back. No call for 3 days, not even to say we did not forgot about you. As I called them back, guess what? Ill have to take your number so tier 2 can call you back. Pathetic phonepower! Pathetic! As to recommendation, Id suggest you to go with those that have been established for a while at least until PhonePower get their things straight ( or shut down

The Good:

The Bad:

I've been with PhonePower for the past 1.5 years and it works great as a phone but Ive been trying to use it as a FAX line and had nothing but problems. I have spent numerous hours with their technical support letting them know that i cannot receive faxes, they work on the issue with me which takes about a day or two then fix the problem which comes back within a week or two. They admitted to me that they are aware of the problem with fax and their service so i don't understand how they can keep advertising it. I have 3 fax machines at my office so i know its not an issue with the fax machine itself. They lock you in a contract and if you want to leave or port the phone number to anther company you will get slamed with charges. Find someone more reliable... just switched to e-fax and love it, easy to use and reliable

After spending years paying what I believed to be too much for home phone service, I finally took the leap and switched to VoIP. Before switching, I wanted to possibly get rid of my landline all together, but my wife insisted we keep a landline in our home. So far with Phone Power we are spending less than $10 per month per line on 2 lines in our house. It has been very convenient and affordable so far, I would recommend it to anyone that wants the same savings as I have received

Phone Power - After your Money at All Costs

Posted: Nov 29, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

Our Phone Power VOIP phone service has not worked in a year-and-a-half after we logged 50 hours of customer service and technical support calls trying to get it to work. Phone Power refused to let us out of our contract even though they could not deliver on the product we paid to receive. Their customer service policy seems to be "The Customer is Always Wrong" and "Our Company is Always Right." There appears to be no limit to how far they will make the customer go to prove their product is not inferior. We became PhonePower customers in 2009 with a pre-paid 2-year contract of $15 per month. Be aware the fee goes up to $20-30 per month after your contract expires unless you call the month prior to the contract expiring and set up another pre-paid, lower-priced contract. However, this additional extension of the contract proved a mistake for our family. Here is our experience: Initial set-up of Phone Power VOIP service took 35 hours. Yes, you read that correctly -- 35 hours. Most of those hours were spent online or on the phone with their technical support department. Tech reps continually jimmied this and that and ultimately got it working, but only because I had the time to spend at night on the phone with their technical support team. You may be wondering to yourself: Why on earth would anyone spend that much time on the phone trying to get their VOIP service to work? The answer is simple: Because the company would not let us out of our pre-paid contract. No exceptions. No common sense. No limit to how many hours the company expects you can spend on the phone with their technical support team. It seems that even if the company does NOT provide the service you have paid to receive, you are still on the hook for the full cost of the contract (whether you prepaid the contract or whether you are month-to-month on contracted service their policy is the same.) They are perfectly willing to have a customer spend 35 hours of their time trying to get their product to work rather than to let you out of their contract -- or, shall we note, to take their claws off your money. Their phone service works about 70% of the time, some days it did not work at all. The nightmare truly began when we moved and brought the Phone Power VOIP service with us. For some inexplicable reason, it did not work in the new apartment, even though we brought all the cords up without disconnecting them and we did the "plug and play" route of the same set-up that had previously worked. We spent 15 hours on the phone with Phone Power trying to get it set up, eventually asking to be let out of the contract and again being told that we just needed to spend more time on the phone with customer service and there was no way for us to be let out of our contract (I have since learned there is an early termination fee option, and I advise customers to take it rather than try and deal with this company). Our Phone Power VOIP service has not worked for the past year and a half, and when I called today to again ask for a refund or to be let out of their contract, the supervisor Jessica again told me the company would do nothing and I was stuck. This is their modus operandi. When I asked where I could lodge a complaint about her customer service, I was told in a very snotty tone that "No one is on the floor but me. There is no one else for you to complain to," as though their company has no president or CEO. It appears the technical support team keeps lousy call records, so be sure and keep your own account. Our account record apparently never showed the hours of phone calls we logged trying to set up the service, or the fact that we requested repeatedly to be let out of the contract. I listened in disbelief as the supervisor "Jessica" told me that our technical call record indicated that our troubles were "all resolved" and that "customer was pleased." This was a total fallacy. The technical support team did actually shine today (a rarity) and got my phone service working in just 2.5 hours -- it appears that split wall jacks can severely disable the service, which no one had ever mentioned before this call. At least the remainder of our contract commitment will not be a total waste of money since we will actually have the phone service to use. However, even during these last "successful" 2.5 hours, I had to make three separate tech support calls, and one representative simply hung up on me. When I called back, the tech support record said it was a "dropped call." Yeah, right. Needless to say, we will not be re-upping our contract next time. We are a bit smarter after this horrid experience! Give Phone Power the BIG MISS if you do not want serious headaches with your phone service. There are undoubtedly honest VOIP providers on the market

Do make sure not to cancel your old number before you have it working with Phone Power if you aren't getting a new one. I almost did that and that wouldn't have been good. I did my shopping around before I went with Phone Power and in my opinion, it's hard to beat the price considering all the features included like the second line, mobile apps, and softphone. I can't see how anyone will have landlines before too long now that we are able to use our home service on any device through VOIP. There aren't any long distance charges. I don't call internationally, but they do include some free international calling too

worst customer service - and they want $100 for a many years old grandstream 502, which is $40 new from amazon!

Posted: Jun 26, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

I got sucked into prepaying for 2 years. Then, after a year, they say, oh surprise, there are a bunch of fees and taxes that we forgot to tell you about. So, now the contract is up. They don't offer any decent prices per month, so I start shopping around. Found out about voip.ms! Went on their web site to do the change over. The phone change over was scheduled for 6/18. So I go on the phone power web site, and cancel service, as of that date. I get an email from their system, with the right date. Then, 2 days later, I get an email saying your service has been cancelled! 10 days early. Plus the email says they want that old grandstream device or they will charge me $100! This old used beat up device is not worth $10! So I started emailing them. I mailed billing first, and referenced the cancellation number. After a week, no reply I started emailing sales and support, with the cancellation number. I never got a single response from any one. These clowns setup their email so they explicitly ignore emails about cancellations, is what I was told when I was finally forced to call their inept billing people. All I wanted was to trade the 10 days of no phone, for the old cruddy used ATA adapter. No sir. No way. They will charge $100! They said no. They'd rather have a pissed off customer, than give up their old used ATA adapter. If I fight it with credit card company, they will show them the terms of service contract, and I'll be screwed. Boy am I tempted to stay and fight! But I just went to amazon, and ordered a brand new device and had it sent right to them, with the rma # in place. FORGET phone power. voip.ms has no monthly service charges period. They charge 1.05 cents per minute, for north america, and not much more for international. So even if we ever used 1000 minutes in a month, that would only be $10! We never come close

PhonePower flops in the middle of the sale!!

Posted: Jun 07, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

I was very impressed with PHONEPOWER.com. As I was browsing through their website (comparing them to other business providers), reviewing their features and services, I decided it was time to put them at the top of the list. However, when it came time for me to pull the trigger, they flopped miserably. I called and spoke to an inside sales person and she was lovely and informative. I asked her for a follow up call the following Tuesday indicating my interest in procuring services and never heard from anyone. I spent the next week having my research assts study blogs and comparing their service satisfaction levels. A week later I sent two emails three days apart stating our strong desire to speak with someone. NO response on either email. I called personally (rather agitated) and spoke to a nice young lady and asked for the VP of Sales. She acted as if he was the Chairman and a little too insulated to speak to potential business clients. She insisted that I send an email and they would track the email address of previous attempts (as they apparently keep track of them) and they would, this time, most certainly get back with me. That was over a week ago! I never heard from them again despite conducting myself professionally at all times as I really wanted to work with them. Why a company would be so incompetent in taking on a business account worth nine phones to start (and perhaps hundreds of lines with a new start up in six months) is beyond my comprehension in this economic environment. If a company cannot take your money when you are throwing it at them, it gives me great pause and what kind of service level they have once your money is in their bank account, especially considering I am paying 100% for two years worth of services up front. Their VP of sales should be terminated, simple as that. He/she is responsible for setting the tone of the companys desire for new net-add revenue and there is NO excuse whatsoever. He got the message and he failed to delegate or take responsibility. I have now wasted 15 man hours getting there and have to start over. Simply amazing. I wish them well in any case

Phone Power: Works well and cheap

Posted: Jun 03, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

I've been referring them and getting the $10 referral credits for a while now. (Just have to give the other person your username or phone number) I do pay monthly instead of prepay so that brings my bill to under $10 some months. They've changed the website a bit from when I signed up and I feel like its a little harder to navigate now, but they have also added more features. Customer service is actually in the US so if you call they are pretty helpful

Phone Power: Resolved to My Satisfaction

Posted: May 09, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

Yeah I wasn't real thrilled about being down for part of a day either, but given that I pay $14 a month for phone service and it's the first time I've been out in 2 and a half years of good service, I'm not going to make a huge deal about it. My internet service has gone out more than that. I called in afterwards and it was resolved to my satisfaction

Phone Power: Two Major Outages

The Bad:

We switched our business to PhonePower about 7 months ago, and we've experienced poor sound quality along withtwo MAJOR outages. Both times they have had outages, PhonePower has had no phones themselves,no website, andno message to clients about the situation.... nothing. This seems to be a business run out of someone's garage with a single server and with very, very poor reliability

Phone Power: Cheap, Mediocre

Posted: May 02, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

I have used VOIP phones for years. I used Sunpower until they went TU. Then I got PhonePower. I was using Quest phoneservice and dialup internet. I switched to cable broadband and VOIP and saved cash -- better all the way around. However, I've not found VOIP without it's problems. It does require a 2 year pre-payment, which I lost part of to Sunpower's demise. The phone quality isn't stellar by any stretch, but still serves as a phone though. I'm uncertain to the 911 functions as we've never had to call -- knock on wood. I wouldn't totally rely on it thoughy. \When I switched to Phonepower they wouldn't change my caller ID name to my name, because they said I didn't have proof that I owned it, though it was our number for 2 years with Sunpower. So when I call people they look at the caller ID and it says Mohamid Khan -- my real name is more like Dan T. Oh well, it got to be a joke after awhile. SO, if you like to get cheap, mediocre and somewhat undependable phone service under the wrong name -- Phonepower is the place for you. HOWEVER, if you want to shoot more for something cheap, yet dependable -- keep on looking. And post it when you find it and I'll go there two

In Canada: awesome features set, so-so routing and support

Posted: Mar 31, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

Last year, I took the plunge and switched from a big local telephony provider to a web-based VoIP provider: Phone Power.Their features set is quite something: free second line, voicemails to email, some free international minutes, etc. But, when it comes to routing local calls, they are so-so. I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Many local agencies and companies have 1-800 numbers that are geolocation-locked; you cant call those numbers from outside Canada, or outside Quebec (depending). How they detect the origin of the call is not based on the caller ID (the callers phone number); it has to do with how the call is routed, i.e. where its coming from for real. Now, the problem is not that Phone Power isnt technically capable of routing those calls correctly, since I have been able to call those numbers on multiple occasions. The problem is that they are unable to keep routing consistent. The result is that those calls will only work sometimes, and will sometimes fail. And, when its not working, and you call/chat support to fix it, they dont know how to resolve the situation. Sometimes, after 20-30 minutes of back and forth, they are able to make those calls go through. Other times, they cant fix it, and answer that theyll investigate further, and contact me later when they found something. Heres a timeline of my (10+) contacts with support regarding this: 2011-08-17Me: I cant connect to the following number: 1-800-361-3977 Would it help if my voip phone number was a canadian phone number maybe ?Support: Possibly. Likely. Though youd need to speak with billing for the logistics of that. 2011-09-26Me: Trying to dial [a 1-866 number], its telling me that number cant be reached from my calling area.Support: Basically i tried forcing the call through all of the providers i have available to me and i get the same message from them all. Call the bank and see if they allow inbound calls from outside canada. 2011-09-27Me: Michael called me today regarding a problem Im having with 1-866 numbers.Support (after 1+ hour of back and forth): Can you dial one more time plaese?Me: yes, its ringing! Bingo!!Support We will be calling you back because we do not want this issue to happen to you or an other customer. I will currently leave it on for now. They might be changing it to test it on our end. 2011-09-28Support: This is a follow up email regarding the ticket you recently opened with us about dialing toll free numbers in Canada. While we do bill calls to Canada at a domestic rate, the call features recognize Canadian numbers as International in nature (as we are an American based company). So with International dialing blocked, it would not permit you to call such numbers.Me: [...] it seems like it only partially block Canadian numbers Because I can call local Canadian numbers without a problem with the setting On. It only prevents me from being able to call some Canadian 1-800 numbers 2011-09-29Me: Returning the call from Dude. He asked to call back if my 1-866 calls failed again. They do. it worked fine at the end of the chat session on the 27th, but now they are failing again.Support: Please try calling again and let me know what happens now.Me: Its working. All of them seems to work again now.Support: We are still going to need to work on this issue to get it fully resolved. We will contact you once we have an update. 2011-10-14 Me: The number you have dial has not been recognized.; different error message than earlier today.Support: [We need to trace the call; can you dial the number again?]Me: [No, my wife needs the phone now. I'll call back again when the phone if unused.] 2011-10-15Me: Some 1-866 local numbers cant be reached again.Support: Ok, lets go again.Me: working now. 2011-11-10Support: We tried to reach you in regards to the problem or service issue you reported on your Phone Power account, but had no success. If you are still experiencing the problem or issue, please reply to this email, or contact us at 888-607-6937 (option 3) in the next 24 hours.Me: Its working fine at this time. 2011-12-02Me: Since I last wrote to you about this on November 16, 2011, when all was working fine, some 1-800 number are not working again.Support: Me: if you cant fix it like that, just make it so all my calls are routed like they were on Nov. 16 and leave it at that.Support: I have already tested that and it did not work either. I will look into this more and contact you later. 2011-12-17Me: Whats the update on this ? Last contact was on December 5: I will look into this more and contact you later.Me: (7 hours later) Official complain email sent to sales@phonepower.com, with instructions to forward to the appropriate person, since there is no other contact information on their website. No response whatsoever. 2012-03-30Support: This is a follow up email regarding the ticket you recently opened with us about your outbound calls to toll free numbers, we attempted to reach you however were not successful. We have removed the test route, please re-test and let us know if problem still exist.Me: 1-800 / 1-866 calls are failing again

Phone Power: Customer service is HORRIBLE

Posted: Mar 21, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

Your service works for approximately 50% of the time for calls and faxing 5% success rate. Reception is iffy-fading in and out. Technical Support does not follow through and fix problems they simply call and close the ticket after the call. Using your phone while out of your home-forget it. I left for 3 months and had people trying to call in and never getting in. Finally I just used my cell phone as the primary as Phone Power was useless. Very bad if your doing business and expecting calls. Resolving chronic problems in not Phone Powers subject of expertise. They get offended and simply close the ticket and call the problem solved. And then you go on having problems and they wonder why your still calling? and not cooperating?? andnbsp

Phone Power: sweet support but no Android app

Posted: Mar 02, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

I have had the service roughly 2 years. When I first signed up I had trouble getting the service to work. I contacted support and talk to one of the lower techs who then escalated me to a tier 2 guy. He was able to help me get my the issues resolved. Apparently something with my router was causing problems with the VoIP service. This was pretty sweet considering I ported my number from Vonage and last time I had an issue they told me the only thing they could do was bypass the router. At first the features seemed slick and more advanced than I would ever need. I started to lean on the service more and my desire for schedule based rules and more expansive call screening has become essential. The fact that they seem to cator to the iPhone community and pushed Android users to the way side has been a little frustrating also. It has been pretty good I don't have any other complaints other than their support hours seemed to have narrowed. Hopefully they get their Android app rolling soon I am tired of using some 3rd party app on my phone

Phone Power: Not Trustworthy

Posted: Feb 28, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

I purchased a plan from Power Phone in early 2011. By purchasing my own equipment and prepaying the first year, I was supposed to get the second year free. At the beginning of what should have been my free year, a $25.24 charge showed up on my credit card. When I inquired with Power Phone, I was told that I had a different plan and that was that. The phone service is OK, but their "deal" is clearly bait and switch. This is not a trustworthy company. Good luck getting them to honor their agreements. I am going back to Vonage. They were honest. andnbsp

80% extra fees and taxes, poor service...

Posted: Feb 08, 2012
The Good:

The Bad:

Joined phone power 3 years ago after all the rave reviews. We had high hopes and wanted to stop verizon tyranny. But: 0) I make most my calls to #'s with skype and pay them $3/mo. I am always at the computer and quality is a lot better. 1) Although it is supposed to be $200 for 2 years, you pay $160 in Los Angeles for extra fees, taxes etc for the two years. They charge half of the 160 each year so it feels less painful. When you add the numbers, you are paying half of what you paid for a landline, except poor sound quality and unreliable service. You are also paying for cable service as DSL will not work with this. 2) My brother had to chat and call and spend numerous hours on the phone with their crappy tech support simply because they would not admit their service does not work with DSL. You need better data pipeline thru a cable connection. He got cable and it worked!! and they never acknowledged the issue. 3) They begin charging you $30/mo without telling you when the two yr pan is over. You can get the same $199/2yr plan again but they dont tell you. The emails then send talk about upgrading to $14 plans. We did that 4) We paid and realized after a few months we were getting charged $9 of fees and basically something close to a landline. You dont get paper bills or emails, so this goes on for a while before you notice. I had to chat w them a few times to learn you can get the same initial plan again. only took a year! 5) Audio quality and service reliability does not f'g compare to a landline. With landline, you also have a dedicated service in case of emergency. andnbsp

Phone Power: Written Notification

Posted: Nov 26, 2011
The Good:

The Bad:

Watch out! Their 2-year contract continues at a much higher monthly rate unless you notify them in writing that you want to quit. I ported my phone number over to VOIPo 2 weeks before the end of the contract, thinking that constituted "notification". The next month I found a charge against my credit card. When I questioned it, they said porting the number wasn't "written notification" and refused to reverse the charge. Not only did I not use their service during that month, I couldn't have even if I'd wanted to since my number had been ported 2 weeks earlier

I REALLY WANTED to like PhonePower. It has the features I want and is cheap.

Posted: Oct 28, 2011
The Good:

The Bad:

I REALLY WANTED to like PhonePower. It has the features I want and is cheap. What's not to like? The answer to "What's not to like?" is the call QUALITY. I can't tell you how many phone messages we've received that are totally inaudible! We don't even understand who the caller is or the number they left! This is unacceptable! It's just a garbled mess. Again, this is not the caller's cell phone, this is PP. This NEVER happened with ATT. Also we know these garbled messages are not from cell phones calling from bad areas because often they are from a friend's home phone or from an institutions such as a bank or service company. We have had numerous instances of making a call to someone and having to call them back again because the quality is not just bad, it's so bad you can't even understand what the other person is saying and/or vice versa. Now, I hear the pro-PP people saying "It must be your service!" Well, we have Magic Jack and we never have these issues with Magic Jack! Magic Jack has its own set of problems - like a lack of features - which is why we bought PP. Also these problems of poor call quality are not when I am downloading music or streaming Netflix. They often happen when my computer is OFF. Tech Support: I have to say that the tech support has been very easy to reach and very responsive. HOWEVER that means little when after spending HOURS of my time with them trying to resolve the problem, the phone still does not offer quality calls! They did test after test, adjustment after adjustment, and still I get LOUSY call quality! The latest - after I told them I am just going to have to cancel my service - is that they say it's my ISP's problem! Hmmm. Sorry, I don't buy it. I get great upload and download numbers via my ATT DSL and PhonePower's own tests show that my "MOS" # based on the site they sent me to test my connection, is always showing good numbers even according to PP's own techs. Now suddenly it is my ISP's problem? I don't think so. If so, then why is the quality using Magic Jack so much better??? Huh? So okay, if PhonePower works for you, great, go for it! I'm just here to point out the truth that it doesn't work for everyone, that in our case, it is of unacceptable call quality and the features such as call waiting are hit and miss - sometimes it doesn't work. All in all I cannot recommend it to others. I am currently looking for a better alternative. If I have to I'll give up on VOIP and go back to ATT or Verizon but I certainly hope I can find a VOIP service that works as well as MagicJack but has at least some of the features of PP. The one feature Magic Jack is missing is automatic forwarding to a cell phone or other phone in case of internet outage. If they had that I'd try MagicJack Plus. But they don't

I have been a happy user of Phone Power for over 2 years. I ported two existing land numbers (in different states and area codes) and take advantage of the many features Phone Power offers such as: Convenient call forwarding; caller ID, call log, call blocking, and etc. It is easy to move the system between the two locations I frequent and to forward calls to my backup cell phone while on the road. Sound quality is excellent, easily exceeding my old land lines. I have successfully encouraged several friends to make the switch

I attempted to sign up with these people since they indicate on their website that you can BYOD and also use SIP credentials. In fact they have spammed forums trying to drum up business by making threads about allowing SIP credentials to be used. Well, yes and no, they want you to provision a device on "their list" first before they will allow that. I will not have my time wasted playing around with a device that I never intend to use, this is ridiculous and accomplishes nothing. That Jessica there that sends the emails and answers the phones has a really nasty attitude, and seemed to be quite happy that I would take my business elsewhere

Phone Power Review: No tweaks and failsafe.

Posted: Apr 03, 2011
The Good:

The Bad:

I got two numbers with them and chose to just have them on the same device. The set up was straight forward enough. I didnt have to tweak anything and I havent had any quality issues. The only thing that would happen was when my crappy Time Warner service would fail then the phone obviously would not be working as well, but at least the failsafe feature kicked in and I got the calls on my cell. Ive since switched to ATT DSL and its been worlds better. Just make sure your internet is solid. Soooo very thankful that they have all US support. I picked the cheapest plan for $15. Once you get the service you have more plan options too when you look in your account page. I use a second line for fax so as the sales rep suggested, I started on the monthly no contract plan and then switched to their metered option ($8/mo, but any outbound calls are 4 cents a min) Its perfect for a fax line or low usage line though.

Phone Power Review - Until Recently, The Best Around in VoIP, But No Longer!

Posted: Dec 06, 2010
The Good:

The Bad:

Until recently, I would have never dreamed of chastising this company, but their service and support is now heading down the tubes at flank speed. Unfortunately, call hold times to get to speak to customer service or tech support have become prohibitive. Half hour to an hour PLUS any time any day of the week, NOT GOOD!!! On 2 occasions over the past 2 1/2 years I've been a Phonepower subscriber, my voice mails and faxes mysteriously disappeared from my online account info. Went through hours of phone calls to find out what the heck happened. Still no resolution on the 2nd go around as I write this and I'm getting VERY FRUSTRATED. As I write this review, my voice mail password all of a sudden doesn't work and blocked numbers are getting through. Over THREE hours on the phone alone this morning including hold times and I get a guy who sounded like he was either stoned or just got out of bed. One nice feature they offer is the ability to have a blocked call list and have those calls go to voice mail or a busy signal, a handy tool for stopping annoying collection agency calls and the like DEAD in their tracks. Although you can have up to 50 numbers on that list, there's no indication on the site that there's a 50 number limit. The system allows you to enter more than 50 numbers with NO WARNING INDICATION that you've gone above the 50 number limit and numbers you enter beyond 50 limit will still get through. This is something I've been complaining about for the last 2 years. Despite the fact that whomever I talk to in tech support agrees this is a flaw in the design of the Phonepower website and they'll alert the web masters, after all this time, THEY'VE STILL DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT! The insane call hold times are now the main reason I no longer recommend Phonepower as I used to ...... to everyone I know. As they've grown, they have not added customer service reps to handle the increase in subscribers, and like most businesses, are going all out to cut costs, AT THE CUSTOMER'S EXPENSE, AND IT NOW SHOWS! Bottom Line: A service that started off great and was so for over 2 years, but now has all the signs of going downhill, FAST

If you use Phone Power without a router, you might be a satisfied customer, but if you have to use one like me, you will find yourself calling customer service all the time: The 1st time I called, they told me that there was an IP conflict between my main computer and the Phone power box (I had T-Mobile @home for 2 years with the same config and never had this kind of issue): We stayed on the phone for about 25 min and they "solved" the pb. 3 days later the service was down. When I called 2 weeks later because of no time, they told me that my phone device is not getting enough power from the wall!! (again, I had T-Mobile @home for 2 years with the same config and same phone device and never had this kind of issue): I change the location of my phone unit and the pb was solved. 3 days later the service was down. I called them today and they told me (with an aggressive and unhappy tone) that my IP keep changing, that's why I keep having problems. Of course my IP is supposed to change all the time since I do not pay for a static IP from my internet provider. Unless you are running a server I do not see why you will need a static IP. I am waiting for someone to call me, waste my time and have the service down in a couple of days.I have been with this company for 5 months now and my phone has been down 25 days per month. Unfortunately I signed up for a one year contract. At this point, I think I'm going to break the contract and go to another provide

Not what I wanted in a company

I ordered Phone Power for a few months. It seemed like outages would keep happening almost on a daily basis by the time I cancelled my account. I could never trust the phone to stay working. Got stuck in an emergency room and couldn't call home as they had another outage. If they could fix their actual downtime (not what they post) it would be a good company. Don't try and contact them during an outage, their webbased communications would shut down before you got to them, and surprisingly their tech support answering machine was full and wouldn't take messages. Not what I wanted in a company

It's great that they offer a free softphone in your account. The fax catcher is handy too. I'm very pleased with the call quality and the speed of which my questions are attended to by customer service. On top of that, the prices are great. I picked the 2 year prepaid at 199.95. Can't complain

Phone Power Review - Happy Customer

The Bad:

I'm not very tech savvy, but the customer service reps patiently explained to me what I needed to know and I'm happy I made the switch from my old company. I started month to month on the $19.95 rate to see if I liked it, which was still cheaper than what I was paying before, but then switched to their 2 year contract plan for $14.95 once I was very pleased with the service and features. I don't use fax that often, but sometimes I do need to receive one and was very pleased that someone could send it to my Phone Power voicemail and have a copy sent to my email as well. Clear call quality is a plus too

Phone Power: excellent price, satisfied

I've been VoIPing for the past 3 years. I started with Vonage. Great program but still costly. I signed up for Phone Power about 8 months ago. Initially I had some issues getting started but the staff there was really helpful and knowledgeable. I was also happy to realize that they all spoke english. Nothing was lost in translation. What a pleasent surprise. The price of course is excellent. I signed up for the 1 year plan and have been satisfied ever since. Tons of features and I dont' have to pay extra. The hardward they send out (grandstream) is small, compact, and has worked great. I would love to get the travel adapter they have (their own version of the Magic Jack...). It was a good move to Phone Power. Just wanted to spread the word... Good company

I signed up for the 1 yr plan... gonna wait a couple more weeks to see if i want to upgrade to the 2 year. I like the features, and the travel adapter works great on my laptop. Ported phone number from Vonage. Purchased device from Best Buy. The package came with Home adapter and USB portable adapter. Took about 10 days to port phone number from Vonage. Then called Vonage and cancelled service. Sound quality seem goods. Time will tell. Dealing with customer service has ben great. Sound quality is fine. No complaints. Price is very good. One of the lowest. Did the yearly plan. Second year you must pay taxes, after the first year. Reliablilty. Too soon to tell. Nice set of features. Did like the voice mail to e-mail that vonage offered. Thats the only reason it didn't get 5/5. I'll update in the future. Bobo andnbsp

Great VoIPAfter reading some of the negative comment I thought I would tell you of my experience with them. A little less than 2 years ago (roughly, I believe) my first VoIP went out of business. While I loved their service, I lost some money with them. Fearing the same would happen with PhonePower, we initally signed up (using one of their promotions) for a few months. We wanted to check their service, use the features and decide if we want to prepay for an entire year. Well, my wife and I our on our 2nd annual agreement with them. The phone quality is great (we have Cox and use their Premier Service with PowerBoost, upload @ 20Mbps and download @ 2Mbps). What sets them apart for us is their web site. Not only do we get/have all the features you would expect a phone service to have in today's world but thy also provide us the luxury to go online and listen to our voice mail (either through their web site or in your email's inbox). My parents have Vonage, my sister has T-Mobile's Call at Home (or whatever it is called) and when compared to PhonePower neither offers the features and price that I get with PhonePower. Besides, I think they are running a special now, prepay the first year and get the second year for free (I am not eligible for it because I was an exsisting customer). You can also get a $30 rebate if you go to voip-rebates.net. How can you go wrong? $220 for 24 months

Former ATandT Calvantage CustomerI've been with ATandT Callvantage for at least two years, and only changed because they were canceling their service. This review will cover only the transition from ATandT, since quite frankly I haven't been with Phone Power long enough to judge reliabilty. My main concern was that I was transferring two different phone numbers with ATandT, and they were important numbers not to loose. My fear was that the primary number would be transferred and the secondary number lost. Since the wife uses the secondary number, that would have been very bad for me! To avoid any problems I placed the order over the phone, instead of on-line. The process was quick and courteous, and I have no complaints about that whatsoever. First rate. I then started to receive a serious of emails, a total of at least five, keeping me advised as to the progress. I became concerned when one of the follow up emails didn't mention the second phone number. After waiting several hours for another email mentioning that number, I contacted customer service. The first attempt to reach them by phone resulted in a wait, so I sent an email instead. It was answered a short time later indicating everything was okay, and after that I received the second email I was waiting for. I'm not sure there was a mistake on the second number, but their process kept me well informed and perhaps helped prevent one. A bit later the VOIP device arrived. It's rather tiny compared to other VOID devices I've seen, but I plugged it in and everything fired up fine. The device claims it takes up to 15 minutes to boot the first time, but I didn't check that. It did pass through traffic to my router almost immediately. A few hours later and I checked the two phone lines, and they both worked (outgoing only at that point). I also set up the various service settings using the website, so that when the service was transferred, everything would be operational. When the transfer of service day did arrive, it happened right on schedule and without incident. In the morning everything was going through ATandT, and by noon everything was going through Phone Power. Call quality seems just as good as ATandT, which is rather good. There are two things I'm very happy with in the change over. First, the Phone Power website is much better than what ATandT's site was. Second, when I'm answering the phone I no longer have to hit "1" to have it know that's the line I want to pick up on. That was perhaps something ATandT did only when you had it ring multiple phones simultaneously, but since that's how I always have it ring, that was annoying. Anyway, so far, soooo good. Very happy with the changeover

I am very dissatisfied with the features, you can't more than one feature at a time. If I use call blocking for in coming, then I can not use call blocking to block my incoming. I was told there is a glitch in their system.. Their system features conflicts with each other. This is the only reason I am looking to discontinue my service, I had no problem with my features with other companies

PHONEPOWER OFFERS GOOD VALUE AND DECENT SERVICE

Posted: Jul 22, 2009
The Good:

The Bad:

I've had PhonePower for a little over half a year, and I am pleased with my choice. There are some potential issues you need to be aware of, though: Setup was challenging, at least for mewithout constant help from tech support I dont think I could have managed it. I had to access the setup menu of the modem via computer in order to configure it properly for my particular IP. Just getting into the online menu of the modem was tricky because I have a router that uses the same IP address for administrative tasks. Don't be scared, but be willing to spend at least an hour or so to iron out the kinks. Some users will probably be able to just plug it in and start dialing, as one can assume that the default settings of the PhonePower modem are designed to conform to the broadest range of customers. Be aware that you will need a backup phone while you port over to this service, as you may need to call their tech support during setup. If PhonePower suddenly becomes your only means of contact with the outside world while you're still just setting it up, then you're up the creek without a paddle. Generally speaking, when you hear a dial tone, you know you're good to go--not so with PhonePower. The dial tone is a 0 one, since it is automatically generated by the modem itself. The dial tone on the PhonePower modem simply means, "Okay, go ahead and dial, and I'll see if we can connect." If you don't believe me, pick up the receiver without connecting the modem to the internet. You'll hear a dial tone, even though there's no way you can dial out. Kind of silly, if you ask me. Porting over my old phone number took longer than I thought it would, but this isn't necessarily the fault of PhonePower, since porting requires the cooperation of my old phone company, which was probably less than pleased to see me go. On the plus side, though, I was still able to dial out with my new PhonePower line while waiting for the old number to port, it's just that anybody dialing in to my old number couldn't reach me for about a week. There are two minor flaws with the hardware (meaning the phone modem): 1) The dial tone expires quickly, so you better know what number you're dialing as soon as you pick up the receiver, or you'll have to hang up and try it again. 2) As has been discussed in many other PhonePower reviews, the volume level is too high. Sometimes I have to actually hold the receiver an inch or two away from my ear to keep from hurting my eardrum. I signed up for the 2-year prepaid plan, with the second year free. They don't really tell you what you'll end up paying with this plan, since the taxes included in the price are only for the first year, but I've calculated it out to be $291.61 total for TWO YEARS SERVICE, including taxes and delivery. Assuming this number is correct, this would work out to $12.15 per month for a total of 24 monthsbut its prepaid, so youre not charged by the month. I only mention the figure as a basis for comparison to other plans out there. After 24 months, of course, your account would revert back to their standard rate, currently (as of this writing on 22 July 2009) at $19.95/month ($23.40 with tax) on a month-to-month or $16.95/month ($20.18 with tax) with a 12-month commitment. The prepaid plan is only good for two years, but it's still the best deal going, unless you want to count SKYPE, which is not nearly as reliable as this service is. I asked PhonePower why I couldnt renew on the two-year prepaid plan, and they said that they make very little money on the prepaid plan, so it has to end by a certain time. Given how low the price is, one can hardly blame them. Call quality is on par with any other VOIP out there. But for the increased volume, there really is no discernable difference between a PhonePower call and any conventional landline. Using the account features, I've been able to block unwanted calls from those pesky telemarketers, even that sleazy company that tries to sell extended car warranties. It's nice to have that online filter, since it still allows people I know to call me without any problem. Anonymous callers with no caller I.D. get a busy signal. Yay! I have experienced some echo problems on very rare occasions, but this can be caused by many different factors that are beyond PhonePower's control. Don't make any operator assisted calls unless you're willing to pay an extra $3/call (but this feature can be disabled). Overall I'd give them a solid B++ rating. They get an A+ for price and overall value. Truly, if you want the most bang for your buck, there's no better service out there

Great Service @ Affordable PriceI 'm going to post my whole review after this little blurb. First I have been in the computer field since I was a teenager and am 29 now. Before making your mind up whether to get PhonePower based on the mixed reviews\horror stories? Think about this saying "There are two sides to every story and somewhere in the middle you will find the truth?". With any service that goes over the internet there are going to be hiccups. In a perfect world the internet would be perfect eg. ISPs would clear congestion immediately on their networks, servers would not crash, there would not be any mis-communication, people would meet each other in the middle over disagreements. Since this is NOT A PERFECT world and s#$t does happen, it takes alot less effort to smear a company on the internet then it does to work with them. Before you order PhonePower take the time and do some preparation. A good place to start is by running this test a few times spread out over 24 hours. http://speedtest.phonepower.com/repeat.html If you need some help interpreting and\or unsure about the results give them a call. Most people would agree taking 10-15 minutes to help ensure trouble free service is alot better then porting your number, then b!@#ching that PhonePower, ISP, etc. screwed you over? Next VoIp is NOT perfect! I will repeat NOT PERFECT! If you ISP is experiencing packet loss, jitter, congestion, your call(s) may sound like s@#t? There is generally not much that can be done about this? For instance out of hundreds of calls we make a month, we might get one that has a slight echo. Granted our ISP is not the best but is certainly not the worst. Lastly, remember why you are switching to VoIp? TO SAVE $$$... It usually is a trade off between quality of service vs. cost and features. Will Verizon give you Caller ID, Call Waiting, Voice mail, 5,000 long distance minutes, plus the ones in the link below for 20.00 or less? Just something to think about before someone reading this feels the need to whine because there service "sucks" http://www.phonepower.com/services/voip/features.aspx If you like this review, have something to add, need a little extra help, etc. feel free to contact me at this url. http://www.dslreports.com/useremail/u/1387637 ---MY REVIEW--- I ordered my service on the 26th and put in a request to have my number ported ASAP. My number was ported without any problems; in fact Verizon hit the button within an hour of getting my device. Hooked up my device to my Linksys WRT54G and my voice had a 5 second lag and was choppy. Tech support called me back 3-5 times after being disconnected and trying different options. The DDWRT firmware showed that I was using 70kbps of upstream bandwidth? After giving up on phone support simply because I was so frustrated because it was so time consuming I decided to see if someone on Live Chat could help me. Well I decided to re-group my thoughts and started out by asking him if anyone had problems with the Linksys WRT54G. In fact they had and he said it had to do with the SPI setting not turning off. I remembered turning it off before but nothing happened. So Im like what the hell Im going to give it another shot. That made all the difference! To give back to the community I made some screen shots to show people my setup with a Westell 2200 in bridge mode. Just follow them and you will be good to go. Also make sure to setup a DHCP static IP and a DMZ. www.mediafire.com/napster Concept is the same for most any router to work with PhonePower the location of the options are just different. As an added bonus I added a voice mail they left me to show how friendly\laid back they are. I asked to be called back in the mourning and the rep made it with 11 minutes to spare. Special thanks to DSLR label PcInTech (www.wildcatrecording.com) who runs an indie record label out Massena and cleaned up the audio for me

Couldnt be much better I read a lot reviews, and waited 3 months before getting my first VOIP system. I have had this new PhonePower.com system connected for 4 days, and it is perfect so far. I use a SMC Router directly connected to a standard 5 meg Charter supplied cable modem. I ordered the HT502 VOIP adapter from PhonePower, which was free except for $14.95 shipping and handeling. (a bit high, but I suspect it pays for the unit also) Ignoring the instructions I connected the adapter to an available port on my router. I plugged in a spare phone to the adapter and connected its power supply. I waited till the green lights showed up, picked up the phone and it just plain worked! I did some test calls... sound quality was perfect... not good, I mean perfect. Identical to the ATandT line. By connecting the adapter downstream from the router I did not have to disturb the existing5 computers I have connected to it.(8 port router). I considered this a huge bonus, as I had planned on an afternoon of resetting, and sorting out IP address issues. As it turns out I did not put a rating in for their tech support above, because I've never talked to them since it worked right out of the box! With the taxes, shipping, fees, etc... my total charge was (advertised at $199) $253.26 for 24 months of unlimited service... thats still only works out to be $10.55/month. Lessons Learned that might help others: 1. Order whatever the companies recommended adaptor is. DONT try to use an existing one... unless you can verify you have an exactmatching model andfirmware levelwith customer support in advance. 2. Order the transfer of your current phone number to be at least 10 days in the future. This way, there is time for the adaptor to arrive and you can set it up immediately and test outgoing callsand has good quality with your setup BEFORE the phone company transfers your number. This will give you a little cushion to resolve any issues. Then when the transfer day comes you just need to attach the primary house line and you are done. If they connection cannot be resolved you can call your existing phone company and cancel the number transfer. andnbsp

Got phone power? Welcome to beta testing! I have been using them as my office phone system for 5 months now and would not recomend it to anybody at all. Their system is a mess. I am unable to set up my attendant because they have 'an issue' that they are aware of and supposedly have been working on for 19 days. They steal 30 minutes of my workday EVERY DAY: I can't set my phone to work from 8-5! It has to be 8:30-5! Yet they are pissed that I keep calling every week to ask why it's not fixed. When I was porting my number they assured there will be no outgage - my phone was a dead line for 6 hours. They introduce new featuers every month so it looks good in comparison to other providers but they don't care if they work or not. The supervisor of development department doesn't seem to see it as a problem. They advertise it as unlimited, but it is not - you get 5000 minutes and I'm getting close to the limit. Issues I had with them: Auto Attendant: Hours can't be specified from 8-5: NOT FIXED (19 days now) Scheduled Overide: Buggy can't set up 'on call' system for my company: NOT FIXED Call Log: Stopped working one day: FIXED Random Erros on Web Page: NEW! just started appearing, didn't have time to call them: NOT FIXED Somtimes I think with sentiment about back when I had Embarq and just pressed *72 to transfer the phone when I left the office. At least it worked and I didn't need a team of developers fixing it every day. andnbsp

Phone Power - great price and excellent phone service We have used Phone Power since December of 2008 (over 4 months now). It is all good. The price is exceptional. Sound quality of calls is excellent. We can't think of any negatives to the change. We get super phone service (with all the features the typical user could want)for a very fair price. Set up was trivial: take the adaptor out of the box, connect it, start making calls. The web interface works fine for setting up speed dials, etc. Our one call to technical support wasn't even for tech support but was answered quickly, helpfully, and politely. We would recommend that anyone considering VOIP take a serious look at Phone Power

When I told the sales girl with Phone Power that it would be used for faxing, she immediately warned me that they do not completely support faxing at the time of my call. The hold time was not too bad, just a few minutes for sales. She spoke clear English, which was a huge relief, and the price she gave me was very competitive from what I've seen. I just wish they could guarantee their service for faxing

Excellent VOIP Provider There have been a lot of reviews of PhonePower that are just rubbish, particularly from some idiot, (http://www.whichvoip.com/voip/user_reviews/phone_power_voip_review.htm, review date of Jan. 15, 2009), who wrote essentially a book on why he doesn't like PhonePower that is just nonsensical and full of inaccuracies (and to this moronic reviewer, no I don't work for PhonePower). Having previously had Verizon VoiceWing for over a year until receiving notice they were shutting down, I did extensive research on VOIP providers. What attracted me to PhonePower was the price ($200 for 2 years including a cloned line for unlimited minutes, well almost, 5000 outgoing, unlimited incoming), the ease of use on their web site, the fact that their customer service and tech support is U.S. based (yeah!!), the fact that in addition to having the ability to enter chats with their customer service and tech support that they will automatically email the chat text to you (indicating that they are not afraid to stand behind what they tell you in a chat) and the fact that they have a forum on DSLReports.com that solicits user input. I had been considering Broadvoice as my brother swears by them (and they appear to be a good company also), but PhonePower's price and ease of contact won me over. Plus, unless Broadvoice and other VOIP providers, PhonePower does not charge an activation fee (activations fees are total ripoffs). As far as my experience with them goes, first they ported my number on the day I selected, always a good sign. Second, I had some issues with my Actiontec MI424WR (a real POS router in my opinion) and Verizon FIOS, which they were able to work around. The ATA PhonePower sent me used, the Grandstream HT502, is a better device than the Linksys PAP2 that I used with VoiceWing. I am able to access the HT502's web page to view status and can configure Basic Settings. The Advanced Settings tabs can not be accessed by users but that is understandable as VOIP novices could really screw things up. However, if you are knowledgeable (or even if you're not) in the ways of VOIP and SIP, you can BYOD with PhonePower just fine and configure away your device to your heart's content. In terms of voice quality, its is as good or better than what my POTS line used to be and better than VoiceWing (I understand to some they may not be saying much but VoiceWing, while not great, was not that bad). I can't speak to the quality of other VOIP providers, but I know that the most important factors are you broadband speeds (up and down) and the quality of your ATA. Having FIOS I get outstanding rates and I can also adjust my QoS settings in my ActionTec (one thing it is good for), both which certainly contribute to the excellent quality I get. But in any event, PhonePower is doing nothing to stand in the way of my voice quality. In terms of features, their voice mail, both over the phone and on their web site is easy to use and I also receive emails of my voice mail. The cloned line is terrific. It means my wife and I can both be on the phone at the same time with having only one number (very convenient). Calls are properly routed, both incoming and outgoing. And their customer service and tech support and responsive and professional In sum, I am very happy with PhonePower and you should not pay any attention to any review that slams them

I tried Phonepower after reading other reviews and the deal with the cloned line for two years for only $200. That's a good deal, but with some problems. Returned device (make sure you return via a trackable shipper-UPS, Fedex, etc.) but I had to prove THEY received it... Then I had to call and DEMAND a refund (within my 30 day trial).... They're making me jump through hoops to get my refund and not a good feeling. I want to recommend the service, but their retun policy makes me think otherwise. I've tried Vonage ($25/mo), Phonepower ($200/2 years) and now I'm with T-mobile-at-Home ($10/mo) since my cell provider is Tmobile. Tmobile has best customer service (Like wow, that's awesome.....thanks for using T-mobile....), their feature set isn't as good, no website configuration possible-yet. Must call in to change ring-settings, etc. The quality on Tmobile At Home is as good as Vonage, better than Phonepower. I can't recommend PhonePower after I went through the cancellation process. They were good up until you want to cancel, then they make you jump through hoops.... not fun. I'd recommend T-mobile if you already have cell service with them, otherwise go with PhonePower if price matters, but quality will suffer

Great Service--Although a bit inconsistent We have had this service since July of 2008. We switched from Packet8 which provides horrible service with archaic technology. I was very pleased with the ease of the installation and how well the simultaneous ring has worked. One concern is that calls sometimes drop before they can even get answered. I have had people tell me that they were unable to get through. This has proven to be only a minor inconvenience. I can't comment on customer service because I have never felt like I had a real need to use them. Unless service gets poorer, we will probably renew our contract when the time comes

Pretty good service at a really good price I work in the VOIP industry. So, I consider myself a pretty good critic. Phone Power is pretty good so far. Overall, best deal out there right now! I wishthe VoIP industry had a better offering for those in need of residential security monitoring. I know many others are like me - ready to completely make the switch, but not if my homeowners insurance is going to go up or if I'm going to have to pay tons of money to my home alarm monitoring company. Oh well..

Prelim Impression I ordered my service on 01/09/09 and received a three emails. (Confirmation, Order Notification, and Shipping Notification). The package was shipped 3-Day Select using UPS. I expected to receive the package on the 14th, but I wasn't at home to sign for it so I got it on the 15th. I unboxed the package and got the adapter out along with the instruction. The adapter (Grandstream HT502) was definitely smaller than I expected. I plugged everything up as per the instruction included in the box. The diagram below illustrates how I have everything setup. My laptops seems to be surfing the web without latency even when I am on the phone which is a good thing. I'll try to stream video, downloads, surf, and talk all at the same time later on (review for that to follow) Since I have a relatively new house, I have a patch panel in the garage. I've disconnected my phone line coming from the street from the service provider by using this as a guide. After I've disconnected, I checked my patch panel and there was a telephone junction box with a bridge port. I plugged my VOIP adapter into my router, and one of the phone jacks into the bridge port of the telephone junction box. I've plugged my Uniden expandable phone to one of the 5 phone jacks at home and I get a dial tone, I waited a few minutes and attempt to make a call and got throught without any problems; other than...... The default setup, there was some weird static noise coming from the phone itself (but it could be the phone itself because I have not used it in over three years and needs to be recharged). My first call, I got a complaint saying that I was breaking out, again - it could be the phone itself. There was a delay of mere seconds when I speak and for the other person to hear it and vice versa. There was a minimal noise with the reception as well. I've accessed my Linksys router and made some change into the QoS (Quality of Service) settings to give the port #1 High priority because this is where the HT502 is connected to. I've made several attempts to call out and the quality is definitely have improved. The delays was very minimal, no echo, no static noise. Everything is clear (so far). The web interface, especially the click2call was extremely useful (I used the same technology with our Cisco VOIP at work). I like the ability to create a phonebook and manage forward redirects along with activating the phone clone from the account page. I've tested the power forwarding feature which I added both my cellphones and it worked. When someone calls my home, my other two cell phones would ring to, or I could have it ring my house, if unavailable, then ring my personal cell, and if unavailable, ring my work cell. I thought it was a neat feature, but I reverted the feature to default as I didn't need it at this time. The ability to view minutes and call history is also great and almost always real-time. There are other features that are available that I somewhat tested and seemed to be functional. More updated review coming.... I have not have to deal with Customer Service so I could not post a review on that area yet. I will place another review after I perform some testing on quality when my broadband bandwidth is high

Considering PhonePower? ....DON'TI have been with this service since the end of Aug 2008. My modem came quickly in the mail and it was easy to set up. The price for the first 3 months was the reason I decided to give this company a try. Can't go wrong at $12.66 a month. I figured this was the best route before I committed to the yearly special of $139.95. Thank GOD I went this route because in no time the problems would begin. My first issue was my phone quality was horrible. There was a nasty delay of a few seconds, so you and the person you were talking with would just talk over each other because of the delay of the responses. The sound quality was just as bad with the choppiness and how faint the voice on the other line sounded. Even though this sounds bad, it just took a phone call to technical support and they made some changes and I just had to re-set the Grandstream device (HT502 that they send you) and all was fixed, Yay!!!! Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! Next problem that came up was that when on a phone call, I would get the sound of call waiting, but when I would click over, nobody was there. In the mean time, the person with whom I was trying to have a conversation with would tell me to stop pushing the buttons. At first I was confused at what the hell they were talking about, but after a few more times of this, I realized that every time I heard the call waiting like sound on my end, that the person on the other line heard a sound that made the noise of when somebody pushed the button. I even used my friend's phone to call myself to hear this sound and it's annoying. Of course my next move is to call technical support. Once again he said he made some tweaks and said I should be good to go (maybe not said in those exact words). Once again, Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! Well.....it did not take long to figure out nothing was fixed and that the call waiting noise was still there and along went my Joy with it. It was at this time I began to experience another problem. My phone would ring and nobody was there. The caller ID would read SIP. I had no clue of what SIP was, but it has something to do with the VOIP system works and SIP is some protocol that is used. Well, since the caller ID only shows the name of SIP and no number, I could not call it back. This became very frustrating as SIP would call me when it wanted and for however many times it wanted. I could get blasted for 5 minutes straight or have it call 5-7 times a day at all hours, and I mean ALL hours), then it would just stop for up to 5 days, then it would happen again. Since this was happening between midnight and 4am (time I am sleeping), I became pretty irate over being woken up and have this SIP calling me for no reason. I only would jump out of bed extremely quick to pick it up because the only time I wo7uld get a call at that time is if it were a emergency. In went a call to technical support. This time did not go as good as the others as I was now calling about 2 problems, the call-waiting problem and the SIP problem. Pretty much I was being talked to like I was crazy and making this up and the blame came down to my phone. Yes, my phone. It was suggested that my phone is just old or is broken and causing the problems. This was not a acceptable answer to me. I have been using this phone on Vonage for a year with no problems and also with SunRocket for 20 months before they closed the doors and left their customers in the dark. I asked to speak with a Supervisor and was told one would need to call me back. One day, two days, a week goes by and I still have not had my return call from a Supervisor. This Sip thing is going on, my friends are just ending the call when the call waiting thing happens, and I am getting pissed off. So now I try and call in to technical support and after being on hold for 30 minutes, I have to disconnect. I can't wait no longer as I have things to do and did not have the time to wait any longer. The next day I try to contact them on their web page live help, but it would just say I am number 1 in line and the wait time is less than a minute and would just sit there like that until I changed the page. This would keep happening, but yet I insisted to keep trying that web page chat. I tried to call numerous time in the following weeks, but once 20 minutes or more of holding happened, I would need to end the call and go back to the schedule of my day. This is quite annoying and my frustrations are building up. Tired of this damn SIP waking me up and disturbing my sleep, I went off at 3am to the 24 hours Walmart and picked up a phone. Came home connected it and took a short nap before I had to wake up. Turns out the new phone made NO difference. Same problems. I can't believe I fell sucker enough to go out a buy a phone that I did not need to use with this service since that is what was thought to be the problem. I knew better that the phone was not the problem, yet so utterly pissed off about that damn SIP, I still went to buy it in hopes of a fix. Well, one Sunday in the Wild Card round, I am sitting there saying to myself, this sucks that the Bears choked their way out of the playoffs and I'm stuck watching these guys play (not that I mind that much, but it's better when your team is playing :P ) I decided to call the technical support. I dialed the number and put on the speaker phone. It just had me on hold till the half way past the 2nd Quarter. The call was made 2 minutes into the game.......The kid I got this time would just say everything looks fine. Everything is not fine, so I asked to speak to a supervisor. He puts me on hold for 10 minutes and then comes back and says one has to call me back. Oh No! I been on the phone here for over a hour and been holding for a supervisor and been through the game of somebody will call you back, I'll wanted to keep holding. All during this conversation this kid would be pushing a HOLD button so I could not hear him talk to somebody, but would release it to early and still would be laughing. Well after a few times of that, I asked him what was so funny? He said nothing and that he was breathing and not laughing. The second time I am being told that I am a idiot (remember the SIP thing). Anyways, I just tell myself I will address that to the supervisor when I speak to him except now I am being told he is going to disconnect the call and he can no longer stay on the phone. Despite my frustrations, I found myself talking to the air on the line .... 20 minutes later I get a call from the supervisor and I tell him the problems with my phone and with the whole situation about the contact with technical support and the live chat issues. Anyways he explained what SIP was again to me and that there was a issue and that he had a update for my device. Basically somebody, I going to use the word hack), found a way to send some signal or something on one of their ports causing the SIP problem. Supposedly not many people were affected, but the problem was discovered and a fix was here. Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! He logged remotely into my router and did what he needed to do. I had to re-set (about 5 minutes after we disconnected the call) and he called me back and he said all was good. He then heard the call waiting sound and my craziness was not considered crazy anymore. After talking for awhile, it came down to he needed to look into that call waiting noise and that if I had a issue with a operator, call Customer Support. My call to Customer Support was not successful....they are not open at that time! It's Monday and I just got off a early morning phone call and the call waiting thing is happening......but there was no SIP to wake me up Despite that, I am just sitting here going I am paying for a service that is just a nightmare. I'm being treated like a bald headed step child and the service is now a few $$$ less than Vonage. Upset at the whole thing, I mean why should you even be wasting energy over being upset over a phone?) I call the Customer Service and ask to speak with a Supervisor. I was then connected with Maggie. She's a feisty cat too, but understanding and VERY helpful. She charged me the promotional rate for the months that the regular rates went into effect and gave me a Credit with them. The call waiting noise happened ....She then said she would go talk to a Supervisor and he would call me soon. And within 15 minutes Jim calls me back. Jim turned out to be one cool cat too. He had looked over what was going on and I told him what was happening so he knew exactly the problems. The call waiting noise happened ......He explained SIP to me and then asked if he could try a few things. After a few phone calls and re-sets of the device, they pretty much disabled call waiting, lowered my codec, and made me go to port 2 on the device and test it out. We would give it a few days and see how it goes. Jim and somebody else did try to call the next few days, but unfortunately I was not around since we had a ton of snow come in and I was busy trying to make some $$$$ and it was also Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I did not make calls and was not around to test anything. There were no more calls after that from them. I continued to test out the way it was set up. No more SIP ....but, my call quality was like when I first started, choppy and delayed with a echo. The sound was very faint as I could barely hear people. The call waiting noise continued. And now my internet is down. After a day of no internet, I call Comcast and they say there is no problems and had me bypass the Phone Power Device (not use it) and try to connect to the internet. Sure enough my internet works. That ends my call with Comcast. I then connect the phone power device back and no internet....I reboot the device a few times and do the same with my Comcast too. I changed out cables and still no internet....Well, I have a new problem and I tested out the new settings on the phone .....RING RING RING Technical Support (since I can't connect to Live Chat as I sit in queue 1 with a wait time of a minute and it sits there for a hour like that and since I had no response from my e-mail I sent). Daniel answered and I explained the situation. He then asked me to wait a minute while he did something and then asked me to try the internet. BAM! I had the internet, but it's seemed slower. He said for some reason my router did not show online there and he had to reset something. Anyways, he then went on and made adjustments and I had to reset my router a few times. He called me back every time. We did this for over a hour. Towards the end of our call, the call waiting noise happened and I got a e-mail from Technical Support. Daniel asked if I could wait as he looked into that noise. I said fine and read the email. Surprised at what I read, I asked Daniel to listen to the response. He was surprised himself and asked who responded to the e-mail. I told him Matt did and that seemed to confuse him more. He is suppose to be one of the top guys (if not the top guys) when it comes to the equipment and stuff and he was not sure why he would say that. Matt said that if I can't connect to the internet, to call my ISP and not to say that I have VOIP? Comcast knows I use VOIP from other people for years as I was with Vonage and Sun Rocket. I don't need to lie or hide anything. I was not happy with that but thank GOD I had Daniel on the case. He was by far the best operator I had. He spent the time with me and called me back and stayed with it till he fixed it all, except the call waiting noise. I have tried both phones with the settings Daniel has and all is good except that damn call waiting noise. I am now looking back and saying what is this now, 4-5 months that I am paying for a service that seems like it's a BETA of something. I should be getting this for free till they work out their kinks so they can charge. Isn't that the way it usually goes. I don't even use 150 minutes a month unless I am on the phone with Phone Power and their technical support. These problems are just ridiculous and I have tried to help as much as I can, but I can't justify paying for this service. I then look at Vonage and consider them again as they are only a few dollars more a month. I would never pay Phone Power for a year of service in advance till it is improved, so I am going by monthly rates. I then look at ATandT and see their package and was going to make of switch of both my internet and phone over to them. Nice package deal. I then call Comcast to give them a disconnection date and I get this guy who gives me this AWESOME deal! I have been with them since they had internet, so he did not want me to go and gave me my high speed internet at a discount of like $30 a month and then gave me the phone at a discount of $20 for a total of $52.60 a month. I pay $2 more for internet alone. Needless to say, that is the way I am headed. I then call Maggie back to let her know what was going on and to give a disconnection date. She did ask me to do this and I left a message and asked for a return call. Few days have gone by and I have not heard back from her, which I am surprised. I will call back in a few days. Comcast will be here and then I don't need these guys. I had notified my Credit Card Company to refuse payment from these guys and told them the problems. They asked if I wanted to do a Chargeback for services not given. I told them no and just said don't let them take money out. I actually have a credit on my account ....... While I see others are ok with this service, I wonder how many of them work for the company. I find it hard to believe that everybody is running smooth when I try to call in and Technical Support is so busy that you are on hold forever. I can't be the only one with problems for that to be or there is a staff of 1-2 operators at a time. Who knows. I have not even said some of the other things they did to me, but I am letting go and just posting my experience with this company. While I was hoping to find another SunRocket, I found what I was afraid of before I found SunRocket, a service that does not work the way it is suppose too! It's not right to look at your phone and get all pissed off about it. That's when you know it's time to go. If you are intent on VOIP, consider th small price difference for a service that works in Vonage. Otherwise look for a bundle from your local phone company. Hell try Comcast and see what they can do for you :P Best of luck in your choice and if you go this route and have problems ....I TOLD YOU SO!

Buyer Beware You get what you pay for. I've had this service for about 6 months and I don't think I have ever been able to reliably make or receive calls. For a while I couldn't place calls without resetting the TA. Other times I couldn't make or receive calls after checking VM unless I reset the TA. Now, I can make calls, but cannot receive. Resetting the TA has no effect. I *tried* contacting their support several times and there is either an extended wait period for online chat, or they take several days to respond to email. Each time they blamed it on some aspect of my setup. I'm pretty certain the positive reviews they have are bogus, too. andnbsp

You get what you pay for...Had PhonePower for a little over a year. Call quality is so so, not great. There is an audible bleep that occurs randomly while on a call, happens several times during a call - every call. Annoying. Support said it was our telephones (Wow, all of them? Really??), not their service. Had Vonage prior to PhonePower, same phones - no bleeps. Interesting. The Linksys router PhonePower originally sent out to us was a piece of junk. We lost connectivity one or more times daily and had to reset the router. Trying to contact support or customer service is an absolute joke - I know people exaggerate about their hold times when calling call centers, but I was literally on hold for 1 hour and 4 minutes before a representaitive picked up. And spent 30+ minutes in chat 'hold', only to have it disconnect. Unacceptable. Once able to reach a rep, he had us go through all the steps we already did ourselves to reset the router (duh), and then determined (which we did several days prior) that the router was defective. Cool. Sending out a new router, no charge. Not the same one though, this one is 'better'. Great! Get the new router - it a Grandstream, not Linksys, and it only has one port on it, the Linksys had 3. Now we can only connect one computer to the router, unless we want to go out and purchase additional equipment, at our expense. Nope. THey don't provide an option of a different router to meet the needs of the customer. We cancelled PhonePower..and they didn't seem to care. Terrific. Our advice? Price is cheap, yes. But the old adage is 1 - you get what you pay for - and this service is sub par. Don't waste your money. Dissatisfied in N

UPDATE: Canceled! I just thought I'd update my Phone Power experience. I canceled on the 29th day just to make sure I got in under the wire. I did actually have to speak to customer service again, and they were as condescending and arrogant as they were before. The problem I was having was dropped calls and they had me run speed tests. The first person I spoke to essentially told me to test my phone, call my ISP because he "didn't want to get into troubleshooting" if he didn't have to. When I told him the phones are fine and they worked with SunRocket, he said that Sunrocket was out of business and it was a few years ago. I reminded him that was because of bad management, not inferior product. And if he was saying their technology was so old, he had to tell me why theirs still couldn't compete with it. So, on with the speed tests. He asked for three, but I did about ten, and then I ran several from other speed test sites. While the results varied, the final analysis of every test was that I was well within the range for above average quality and reliability of service. But they seized on the variance and started telling me it was my ISP and they had nothing to do with the issues. When I pointed out that all results were above the tolerance levels, he started that heavy sigh and consdescention I encountered the first time I tried to talk to them. Basically said I didn't know what I was talking. Well, I do. I know that my service in this house with the same phone and same ISP with that old, decrepit provider SunRocket was leaps and bounds better. At that point, even if Phone Power had decent, reliable service, I would have canceled just as a customer service issue. Those people should not be allowed to deal with humans. I think they got their customer service training in the same garage they must keep the equipment

AWESOME service for the money! I originally signed up for Vonage but then I found out that they could not port my number over from Verizon so I dropped them. I'm glad I did because I found PhonePower! These people are really great. First, the price is very low, I signed up for the yearly deal and got a year free plus a free cloned line. This keeps my cost to about $10.00 a month for 2 years. Second, tech support is awesome! When you call, you actually get someone in the USA, not in India or somewhere else overseas. They are always VERY helpful and do all they can to get your issue resolved. I could not be happier with my service with PhonePower, especially since I'm saving over $60.00 month since I told Verizon to take a hike. I got tired of them nickle and dime'ing me all the time. Phone Power is awesome! Give them a try and you'll see I'm right

I have no reason to regret my choice

Posted: Dec 10, 2008
The Good:

The Bad:

I'm in an area of NJ not served by Verizon. My local phone company has passed through several hands and is currently Embarq (and they're about to be accquired). Each transfer has resulted in reduced quality of service. These usually take the form of long delay (or no) dial tone (call quality is OK). The penultimate insult was dropping my important conference call with work in mid-call with a 20 minute delay before dial tone was restored. Then last month, they slapped me with a 25% rate increase! And this is just for basic service (no calling features; LD via Lightyear (GREAT company!)). Obviously time for another option. Neighbors use Vonage with spotty results. Some research (especially here) made Phone Power the stand-out choice (as long as they remain in business). Went for broke and grabbed the $200 one-year special (2nd year free, free cloned 2nd line, free Grandstream HT502 and no charge for porting my existing number). This last was very important as I've had it for over 25 years. Found a $20 promo code that offset the $15 hardware shipping charge. Was a little worried that Embarq was not in the on-line order drop-down for transferring the existing number. Selected the first available transfer date (today). Waited over a week for any acknowledgment (dropped one star for that). Never had any contact with Customer Service (not needed). I received and an email stating that my account was set up. Last week , the HT502 arrived. Once installed, outbound calling was available. Today around noon no more Embarq dial tone. This time it was because my number was transferred! Call quality is OK (see Cons) features are great and voicemail retired my answering machine. So far I have no reason to regret my choice. andnbsp

looks like a winner After reviewing few VOIP providedrs in my area I picked PhonePower based on website reviews, and great value. Before I opened my account I needed some question answered. I used e-mail communication and I'm happy to report that I got an answer not even 2 hours later with clear answers. Opening account on-line couldn't be any easier. After I rececived phone modem it took meless then20 minutes to install it, following easy set up instructions from manual. That includes 10-15 minutes of first time modem initialization. So far I placed only one test phone call, but only from the dial tone sound, I could tell that it was strong and clear. It is worth mentioning that I use 10Mbits cable conection. Also my old phone number was transfered from phone company without any problem. I have chosen "no contract" plan, but if I'm happy withPhonePower, I'll switch to prepaid 2 year contract. So far I'm more than happy

THEY WILL HOUND YOU IF YOU ARE A FEW DAYS LATE WITH PAYMENT Decent service but watch out if you fall behind in paying. Pricing is expensive. If they can't charge your cc they will call you several times a day and cut off your service in 5 days - even if you ask for an extension. Expect multiple emails every day threatening to cut your service off. Billing sometimes responds to emails. Sometimes they don't. Tech support is unavailable in the evening

I was NOT overconfident! I used to be with SunRocket. They went belly-up on my birthday and I ended thinking no one cared. But really, no one could call me. I decided I'd be one of those who had only a cell phone, but I use the phone so little, the cost price was turning out just as bad as having a land line, so I started hunting around for another VOIP provider. I already knew to stay far, far away from Vonage. Before going with SunRocket I had been with Packet 8, which was where they suggested SunRocket customers go, and there was NO WAY I'd go back with them. I had DUMPED them! Enter PhonePower. Against my better judgment that I hope doesn't turn around to bite me, I signed up for the 2 year service. I waited for my equipment, and when it arrived reviews the hook-up instructions. I am one of those dorks who reads through the instructions before doing anything. I know that shows a lack of guts, but it's just the way I am. The instructions read, and I quote, "Connect your cable or DSL modem's Ethernet cable into the HT502's WAN port. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable that came with your HT502 into the LAN port..." Not only did the phone not work, but my internet stopped working, too. I had to use my prepaid cell phone to call tech support and got the bottom rung of communication ability. He told me to do exactly what I had done--exactly what the instruction said to do--and it still didn't work. I entered the codes to give him remote access, and ran some command on the PC. Nothing. I had to keep hurrying him along because I am the IT contact for our department at work. Not because I'm a pro or anything, but because I can troubleshoot and read directions. Then the charmer said, "Are you sure you have the cable from the modem in the WAN port?" Why yes, I'm sure. "Would you double-check, because you sound a little overconfident... EXCUSE ME??? Yeah, that's what he said. He even repeated himself. I replied very slowly, a little Dr.Suess-like,so that he could understand, "The cable that was in my modem is black. I put the black cable in the port that says WAN. The cable that came with the unit is blue. I put the blue cable in the port that says LAN. I put the other end of the blue cable in the same port the black one came out of from the modem. I'm looking right it. No, sir, I am not overconfident. May I speak to a supervisor?" There was more, but I'll spare you. After I was left on hold he said the supervisor was busy and could he call back. I said I was going to confidently play with it some more, and if I decide I'm not sending the garbage back, I will call HIM. I plugged in my modem again so I could send an email, and let fly. I got a response that effectively said to do the reverse of what the tech and the written instruction said. Huh? Well, I'm all for trying new things, so I did. And it worked! Yeah, dude, had I been overconfident, the damn thing would have been working. Okay, so the phone works now. And works very well. As long as I NEVER, EVER have to call support again, I'll been happy to keep it. Still, I'm watching the 30 days, because if day 29 comes and there is just one single momentary glitch, they're getting it all back

Excellent Needing to reduce my monthly bills and after doing weeks of research I finally decided on PhonePower.com. It was really important to me to keep my current phone number and their porting system sounded like the easiest (and was). I placed my order on October 13 requesting activation on 10/20. Received my little device on the 16th. Directions were excellent and even an old grandmother could follow them. I hooked everything up and it worked like magic. It's been a week and a day since I placed my order and I'm totally up and running - including the porting of my phone number. I've spoken with their online chat twice - with questions. Once before I signed up and once after. Both times they were prompt, pleasant and efficient. I'm going to be saving $50+ per month from what I was paying atandt and I'm thrilled about that! I can't believe how fast and easy (and economical) this has been!!! I look forward to a long relationship with PhonePower.com!

Phone Power is so much better than ViaTalk I switched to Phone Power over 2 months ago. I am so glad I did. They ported (transferred) my number from ViaTalk with no problems.Itdid take ten days, which I consider fine.I simply connected the adapter to my router and phone and powered up. Everything worked perfectly! I've been using VOIP for 4 years, and this is my best experience yet. There is relatively no delay. I had really long delay with ViaTalk over the last year or so. I also have Zingo Tel for a different home area. There is no comparison, Phone Power is better. I don't use their voicemail, I prefer my own answering machine.I will sign up for the 2 years at 199 as soon as my 3 month trial price is up. If you are considering switching from a landline, I will tell you to do it

A Real Review! Ok. I have used Vonage, Verizon Voicewing Voip (which is the worst. STAY AWAY), Sunrocket, and not to mention all the regular phone companies like Verizon and MCI, and so far this is the overall best service yet. This is not to say I have not had an issue with phone power. When I first got the phone it did not work right away b/c phone power did not put any info in there manual saying that if you have Verizon FIOS, you have to do this extra step to make the phone work. Either way I called tech support and they fixed the issue. The guy remoted into my router, and opened some port for the phone to work, so I really did not have to do much. The phone quality is by far most comparable to a regular land line from the other services. Their tech support is not open 24/7 but when they are they are fast, very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this service to friends, family and anyone reading this review wondering should I sign up or not. andnbsp

PhonePower works just fine I want to add my comments about PhonePower because I used VOIP reviews to help make my decision about which VOIP company to choose. I've used PhonePower for a month and a half and have been very please. ATandT raised their rates for caller ID, so I switched my land line to VOIP so I could get caller ID and long distance calling at a cheaper rate. I don't make a lot of calls on my land line, so PhonePower's 500 outgoing minute deal for $14.95 per month fit the bill. I tested it out for a couple weeks to make sure it was working fine. I then called and asked to have my home number ported to my PhonePower line. PhonePower informed me I would have to pay $15 to change my number, so I told them I would switch to Lingo if they didn't waive the charge, at which point they waived the charge. They ported my number on time, I disconnected the ATandT POTS wiring coming into my home and plugged the phone power box directly into a phone jack. I now have VOIP at every phone jack in my home. andnbsp

phone power I signed up w/ Phone power.. took a bit to get it working but their C/S was great.. I spoke with a LIve person.. even did the tech support chat and when disconnected they actually called me back. Even got a call from them about the install guide they had written for my router to get my input if it was clear and precise. The service works well.. price is ok.. weekend support would be nice.. but i don't think iv'e even gotten a proactive callback from anyone about a product that i've bought except by phone power. Call log is finally expanded.. that was my one gripe.. otherthan that i've used it for six months and will keep using it. andnbsp

PhonePower IS Phone power!!!! I searched and found PhonePower and figured I'd give them a try. AM I GLAD I DID! The sound quality is outstanding and NO DEAD/DROPPED CALLS at all make this service NUMBER ONE in my book. They keep improving on their web site and the features they offer just keep getting better and better. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK PHONEPOWER! FYI....FYI.... I had (and got stuck with) VoIP.com for a year when SunRocket went belly up. They are one service that should not be in business! Read the reviews and judge for yourself

I contacted PhonePower - talked to a LIVE customer support rep and he had me connected in minutes! Can't ask for any better service than that! I shopped around before I purchased, I researched other providers and I feel like I found the right voip service. I highly recommend

About as good as VOIP gets...so far 2 months ago I dumped the awful Voip.com for Phone Power and so far, no regrets. I've had a few choppy/ noisy calls, but that's expected with any voip service. I haven't experienced any non working services or dropped/disconnected calls that I did with voip.com. Phone Power does not offer weekend support which cost them a star in customer service, but the limited experience I have had with their support has been sterling. Both the the web chat and call in support have been quick to respond and knowledgeable. On setup, the customer service agent even called me back to make sure all went well. About the only criticisms I can make is that the hold music is lame and in using the sim ring feature the caller hears a "locating subscriber" recording instead of a ring. Neither are deal breakers. So far so good, but Voip.com was acceptable ffor a while too, till they turned to poo

From VYL to PP Sunrocket. to several others, to VYL my last provider. See my long post under VYLas to why I moved. Now I have a service that works. FMFM works and the general setup on this site was good. My one gripe is the call logs are lacking you can only see the last 10 of outgoing, incoming, and missed. No last months etc. If they update that then I will be a happy person. andnbsp

Good service, even overseas. I decided to get a voip service so that Ican take it with me when I travel. I signed up with Phone Power because they don't make you sign a long-termcontract and I could cancel immediately if I wasnt happy with the quality. My next trip to Shanghai, I brought the box with me.I plugged it in and itworked! AndIwas pleasantly surprised at the sound quality. People could call me as if I was back home, and everything worked great. Their portal gave me the ability to change my 911 service address (do they even have a 911 system overseas?) but I left it alone. I was happy enough that when I got home, I changed from the $14.95 Freedom500 to the unlimited annual plan. I would highly recommend

Phone Power: Works Perfectly, No Echo, Affordable

The Good:

What else can i say, It simply works like it should everytime. They give you an over-abundance of features and have no activation fees and contracts. Add a ridiculously low price and you can see why they're doing so well. I have to say that online reviews are somewhat squewed in my experience. People are more likely to complain and take out their fustrations when things aren't working than to take time out of their busy day to post something positive. Given that mentality,I can see that phone power still has an excellent ranking. That makes them AOK in my book. I hate to rant and rave, but one of these reviewers was totally pissed that they had to to send an email to get anciliary services? Are you kidding? I am very happy with my service and the staff has been a joy to work with. They recently added Saturday support and their sales staff assures me that 7 day support is weeks away. The reliability of the service and their commitment to the customer shows through and through. Mark me down as fan

Phone Power Did not even get a chance to try. A glitch in their system would not accept my credit card, although 5 pre-ops at 1 dollar each were charged. Their alleged customer service told me to keep trying. Finally they figured out (with my help) the problem, and stated they had no way to take my order manually. Totally incompetent. Glad I did not get their dis-service

Beware of PhonePower - poor customer service and no weekend tech support The features and the price seem great! I am all for small business. However, my experience with PhonePower has been horrendous. I have to say, I have been with Vonage for 4 years and have had some problems, but they worked them out. It only got worse when I moved to Palm Springs. I asked for a Palm Springs number and was given a number which worked for a month and then, would not work if anyone from a Time Warner phone called. This was unacceptable and Vonage has NO LOCAL PS numbers. Thus, I joined PhonePower. The price and features seemed great as did some of the reviews. Sign up was a breeze and I even picked a great number. I then decided to add another line. GIve them more business and that is where the problems began. First, their billing, sales and customer service is horrendous. They cannot add service without emailing them, if you go online, you must add service as a new customer and pay for another modem. They do not let you choose a number or one of five numbers as they do online. One then gets endless emails with no resolution. I even wrote to the CEO and he replied that someone would phone me iby noon the next day. Noon passed and no call. I did get an email asking me again to email them. Hmmm, for $9.95 I should have expected untrained professionals. They offer 18 months of service at a great rate, yet, they make it impossible to get additional services. Fine print also states NO REFUNDS...so beware if paying for the great 18mos. of service. I will be transporting the number to another service. In addition, when I received the equipment today, I easily set it up, but I cannot dial calls out. I can receive calls. I then found out NO WEEKEND TECHNICAL SUPPORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In this era, cannot imagine they do not have this service. To me, the distcount price is NOT worth my time and troubles. Please beware of them and don't make the same mistakes I made!!!!!!!!!!!! andnbsp

Phone Power tec support so so

Posted: Jun 17, 2008
The Good:

The Bad:

Tech support with minimal patience I know this is old fashion thinking, but I still believe phone service is still one of the most important piece of communication tool. Traditional phone companies have been slow to innovate, but they've always understood and treated phone service as a vital service.I've used Comcast VOIP for several years (multiple technology generations), and the only reason I signed up for PhonePower was for the lower pricing. Comcast cable and VOIP services have been rock solid. I often got salesy reps, but I've also had pretty good experiences with the tech support folks. So what about my 2-month experience with PhonePower? In short, this is a company that does NOT treat voice communication as a vital service. My observation is that they are in a customer acquisition phase, and are going for the 75/25 rule - if you fall into the 75% lucky bucket with no issues during installation, then you're a keeper; if you fall into the 25% troublesome bucket with issues, then it's cheaper to drop you.I hope Dave in tech support is simply one bad apple in the group. He readily hung up the call when I started to challenge his interrogative style of troubleshooting. After 15 min of rebooting over and over again the Phonepower router, and listening to his accusations about how I must have done something or logged into his router and changed the password, I feel like I was in an episode of Saturday night live with the arrogant tech support comedy. It was a simple request - I needed Phonepower to port over my existing number from Comcast. A date was promised. The porting did not happen. My existing number disappeared from Comcast. Dave asked me to reboot Phonepower router. After the first reboot, I lost phone service completely. After more reboots, still no service. Then begins the "you must have done...". Before I know it, he "disconnects" my call and puts down "customer swearing" in the ticket. I challenge anyone at Powerpower to review the call recording.Matt, a supervisor, called back and fixed my issue within 3 minutes. When I asked for credit after 6 hours of waiting and troubleshooting with 5 different folks, he happily offered me 33 cents for a day's worth of outage. I could hear a smirk in his voice has he offered the credit. When Comcast missed an installation appointment, I received a month worth of credit

Phone Power Review I was about to give up on VOIP until I was recommended Phone Power. As far as useability goes, they had the easiest set up for both hardware and software that I've come across (In my three previous companies, I've had experience with three different VOIP providers.) Phone Power had the best pricing by far. Overall, I'd recommend PhonePower very highly. So far I've had only one dropped call out of well over 100 made so far, and the voice quality is quite good....approaching that of the digital cable phone we were using previously (at about 1/10 of the price!!) andnbsp

stay away Absolute worst experience I have had. Phone power was my third VOIP provider and in seven days was only able to get a busy signal on dial out. Their service support is not there. Their phone lines will disconnect you after being on hold for 20 minutes and anyone who can get through in less time either works for them or is a magician. I belived the hype and signed up with them for a year but have already cancelled. They did not port the second number I requested but just as well since nothing worked, The number they did port will not ring, it does sometimes roll over to my cell phone and sometimes it gives the caller a busy signal. What a mess. The support technicians when I did get through talked to me like I was an idiot and did not seem to care if I got my line working or not.I just wish I could give them less than 1 star

Love PhonePower I've had the service now for over a month and i would classify myself as a heavy phone user; work from home; software engineer; lots of conference calling, coupled with heavy use of the broadband connection simultaneously. Their phone adapter is a kind of "set it and forget it" adapter, you plug it in and it just works. Plus they have an 18month special for $199.00, that's like 9$/month for unlimited phone service

PhonePower is not without its flaws The price is right but tech support availability is poor. The hardware they provided worked fine to start out -- but failed within 60 days. Because the failure occurred on a busy week for me when I was tied up during the hours their tech support is open and spanning a weekend, it was over a week before the service was restored. Almost all of my other service providers (internet, TV, etc) have 24x7 tech support -- even if their sales offices keep regular business hours. Phone Power reverses that -- they're always available to sell you the service (24x7) but if you have problems, they'll only help you fix them on THEIR schedule (NOT late at night, and NOT weekends). If you have some other service to fall-back upon (cell phones, etc) so that a protracted outage is not a problem, and if you have time to deal with tech support calls in the middle of your own work day or in the early evenings then don't worry about it -- the price is right. But if that level of service and support is problematic for you, you should think carefully about how much outage and inconvenience it is worth to you in order to save a few dollars on a monthly bill. andnbsp

Wonderful phone service!I've had Phone Power for two weeks now. It's a vast improvement over my old wired phone service. Audio quality is much better. People on the other end of the line comment how good my new service is and I can clearly here everyone else now. Phone Power made it so easy to switch over as well. It took about a week to shift my phone number from my old wired service to the new VoIP service with Power Phone doing all the work. My phone service switched on the day they told me it would and I was only out of phone service for about an hour. I went ahead and paid for a year of service with 6 months free. 18 months with no phone bills showing up and I would have paid the same for 5 months of the crappy wired phone service
