28 May 2009

[Eschborn, May 28, 2009] Huawei, a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it will set commercial FTTB (Fiber to the Building)/FTTH (Fiber to the Home) network for M-net in Bavarias big cities – Munich and Augsburg.

Huawei won the contract of FTTB/FTTH network as one of two equal suppliers from M-net already by the end of 2008. The project roll-out in Munich has started in March with 1500 buildings, and it is the first large scale fiber access deployment in Munich. The deployment in Augsburg is expected at the beginning of Q3. By 2013, a number of approx. 40,000 buildings will be connected to the whole network.

With Huawei's future-oriented FTTx based solution including OLT (Optical Line Termination), MDU (multi-dwelling unit) and ONT (Optical Network Terminal), M-net will hold the most advanced access network in Bavaria and can provide high-speed convergent voice, data, TV and multi-media service for its customers.

Dr. Hans Konle, CEO of M-net, said: "As the leading regional operator in broadband access, to build this FTTB/FTTH network is an important step for us to achieve our broadband strategic goals and we will provide our customers with a full tremendous level of flexibility and reliability in service. Huawei's FTTx solution meets our current and future requirements and we are glad to form the partnership with Huawei".

"We are glad to be the partner of M-net in this exciting and very important project. Huawei's vision and strategy of Next Generation Access Network is fully based on optical fiber access and highest bandwidth capabilities. In this context the FTTB/FTTH project of M-net is world top class and will position M-net in a leading role regards current service offerings to their customers and future capabilities", said Walter Haas, CTO at Huawei Germany.
