[PLANO, Texas – December 7, 2009] Huawei, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, is honored to announce it has received the 2009 IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Corporate Award in recognition of the company’s contribution in partnering with industry operators and other vendors to ensure the success of broadband and mobile network standardization.

The IEEE-SA Corporate Award is presented annually to an IEEE-SA member organization for providing outstanding leadership and contributions to the IEEE-SA. Past recipients of this award include Intel Corporation, Hewlett-Packard Company, Sony Electronics, and IBM Corporation, Motorola, Lucent, and Mentor Graphics.

Huawei has been an active contributor in IEEE since 2003 and has participated in other IEEE 802® committees including the 802.3™, 802.15™, 802.15™, 802.17™, 802.18™, and 802.21™. Together with operators and other vendors, Huawei has played a significant role in the development of the 802.16™ WiMAX industry standardization process. Huawei has proactively collaborated with industry peers to develop and synchronize cutting-edge technologies that would ensure that the 802.16m™ meets the ITU IMT-A requirements.

In addition, Huawei has led the successful authorization of 802.1Qbc ™(RCSI) and 802.1Qbf™ (Segment Protection) standards projects to address the needs and requirements of today’s changing broadband markets. Upon completion, these projects will assist operators to fulfill the requirements of today’s highly advanced mobile broadband market.

Recognizing the need for greater efficiency in the creation, delivery and management of the interacting services and applications in broadband and mobile networks, Huawei initiated work on the IEEE P1903™ (NGSON), a new standard that provides a specific framework for IP-based service overlay networks. Huawei has also served as a board member of the IEEE-SA Corporate Advisory Group (CAG).
