Polycom (PLCM) caught the eye of investors in videoconferencing market. It's well known that Polycom provides communications and complete videoconferencing net infrastructure developing video-, data-, voice- and web- conferencing equipment.
There are rumors on the market that Polycom was approached by two groups proposing a merger or a buyout. Over the last period Polycom's alliances developed VOIP communications products with major tech companies (HP, MSFT, Avaya). So by now Polycom is perceived as the last large independent player on the market. It becomes an effective tool for investors to get exposure to the quick-growing videoconferencing or telepresence market. Polycom is accepted as the only competitor to Cisco and expected to get market share in videoconferencing systems market.
Polycom counts several large institutional investors among its shareholders: Wellington Management, BlackRock Institutional trust, Vanquard Group. So, as predicted by some experts, Polycom is enhanced by its potential as takeover target.
