Will Google's VoIP service submit to regulations? Will Google's VoIP service submit to regulations? Will Google's VoIP service submit to regulations?

20 September 2010

Google again proclaimed that they are not a carrier and so they must not be submitted to the same regulations as phone companies. Before there were lots of discussions raised by telephony companies that forced Google to follow the same regulations like other companies of the market had to follow. Now with the new calling available in Gmail, should Google be worried to be regulated like other companies providing phone service?

Google is supplying an end point for calls with usage of free software based on messaging platform, but broadband services are provided by telecom companies. Even with the situation still being the case, it's not like telephone companies can control the phone service Google is providing over their wires – that is what the FCC regulations are supposed to affect.

There is other point of view: if the FCC will decide to ascribe Google as a carrier of sorts, the company must drop its offerings rather than follow that line.
