According to the press release from ROP, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) arrested in Oman’s Central Region six Pakistani for illegal providing international calls via the VoIP Network (VOIPN).
Based on a tip-off, the ROP’s Criminal Investigations Department forayed a house in Haima town in Central Region of Oman and arrested six accused persons with all the paraphernalia deployed to offer the service. Among their clients there were mostly low-wage expatriate workers.
The police also recovered a significant amount of cash from them.
Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA) in Oman has carried out several campaigns to propagate that deployment of VOIP service of VOIPN contravened Article 20 of the TRA Act.
According the TRA regulations, exceptionally licensed service providers can provide communication services such as VOIP telephone. The police warned all residents to abide by the law to avoid legal problems.
