 Research: European Telecom Operators Are Cautious in Cloud Race

According to the latest report from Informa’s Telecom Cloud Monitor, European telecom operators can be sidelined in the global cloud computing market. The new research has found “that European operators accounted for only 7% of the US$13.5 billion that operators committed on cloud assets in 2011. North American and Asian operators accounted for 90%, or US$12 billion.”
Informa Telecoms & Media’s principal analyst commented that “European operators are being outgunned in cloud infrastructure. Although they are working to stimulate local demand, their investment strategy remains cautious… It’s urgent to defuse concerns about cloud computing in Europe to drive market development. European operators are major players in this endeavour with their trusted brands and sales outlets.”
However, European operators support local innovation: About half of the cloud services launched in 2011 built on European cloud technology vendors.
