Telstra Will Offer Open Access Wholesale Service in South Brisbane Telstra Will Offer Open Access Wholesale Service in South BrisbaneTelstra Will Offer Open Access Wholesale Service in South Brisbane

24 January 2012

According to the communications minister, Telstra will offer an open access wholesale service on fiber networks the company is deploying in South Brisbane and some other real estate projects.
The service “Fibre Access Broadband' will be available to access seekers on request, on an open and equitable basis and will be subject to oversight by the ACCC.”
The wholesale service will help support competition between service providers and offer greater options for end-users.
Telstra is going to scrap of its copper network connected to the South Brisbane exchange to make way for the new Queensland Children's Hospital. This replacement of the copper access network with fiber has been “a sore point with wholesale customers of the copper network” as they had no option but to migrate services from the copper to the fiber, claiming that Telstra has not offered an comparable service.
