Consumers and small businesses who want to store and share huge volumes of digital assets can now benefit more from their Verizon (News - Alert) Online Backup & Sharing, or so-called VOBS service plans.

Verizon reportedly announced that the storage capacity for subscriptions is increased significantly without increase in the service’s monthly rates.

“As consumers accumulate more and more irreplaceable digital photos and videos or crucial computer files, we recognize they need an expanded storage solution that is safe and secure,” said Susan Retta, Verizon vice president of consumer product management, in a statement. “That’s why we are boosting the size of our storage capacity at all levels.”

The company announced new VOBS storage capacity options and their monthly rates ranging from 5 gigabytes storage capacity to as high as 250 GB capacity. The online backup and sharing feature behaves like a lockbox for critical files. The storage system allows anywhere and anytime access to the files such as from home, work or even while traveling. The storage capacity has been increased five fold and the company has announced a 30 days free trial period for new subscribers.

The online backup protects photos, financial records, videos and music form accidental damage, power surges, hackers and hard drive crashes. One subscription entitles back up from many computers said the company.

Customers using VOBS can share files including personal photos and videos with family and friends and also share important documents and files with business partners and office colleagues without facing problems associated with email attachments. Further VOBS provides a drag-and-drop sharing feature from the user’s computer and a simple, automated storage mechanism.

VOBS allows making of customized lists of people who will be able to access folders besides facilitating easy access to stored files from any computer with broadband Internet connection. VOBS also provides standard online sharing features like “read only” access to some users and “read and upload” privileges to others for collaboration.

Verizon announced services, which bundles together VOBS with Verizon Internet Security Suite, along with a bundle of 25 GB of storage and VISS coverage for 3 computers. The VISS safeguards PCs and information from online threats like viruses, spyware and Internet attacks with one easy download and installation besides providing automated updates every three hours to protect the user’s assets from latest dangers.
