21 November 2011

Tata Communications, one of leading communications service providers that owns the world’s largest subsea cable network, has recently announced the rollout of 40 Gbps empowered services on company’s TGN-Atlantic subsea cable system connecting New York and London.
In collaboration with Ciena, the implementation of 40G coherent optical technology on company’s TGN-Atlantic cable is the first on Tata's submarine network. This upgrade will provide bandwidth and flexibility to enterprises and carriers worldwide increasing four times the capacity in comparison with traditional 10G wavelengths.
With Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform, the TGN-Atlantic optical network can better support carriers and enterprises' increasing bandwidth requirements for high-speed connectivity with a scalable, flexible and cost-effective infrastructure. As officials stated, the network is compliant with ITU standards.
The WaveLogic coherent receiver technology from Ciena empowers unobtrusive 40G / 100G upgrades to submarine networks adding new terminal equipment, as well as extending the life of cable plants and reducing ongoing network operating costs.
