2 February 2012

Ciena Corporation, a network specialist, has officially announced that Phonoscope, a Houston-based company, had selected Ciena’s Packet-Optical Transport and Carrier Ethernet technology in order to provide service provider and enterprise customers in the Houston metro area with next-generation, high-capacity optical transport and business Ethernet services, and 4G LTE mobile backhaul services.
Deploying Ciena’s solutions, Phonoscope becomes the first Houston-based metro communications operator equipped to offer voice, video and data services at speeds from 10G to 40G to 100G.
Phonoscope will use Ciena’s 6500 Packet-Optical Platform in order to build a new, high-capacity optical network connecting 25 fault tolerant, multi-gigabit Ethernet rings. The improved network will empower Phonoscope to deliver optical transport services with the ability to scale to 40G/100G with Ciena WaveLogic coherent optical line cards to answer customer requirements in the future.
Phonoscope will deploy 5410 and 5150 Service Aggregation Switches, as well as 3930 and 3931 Service Delivery Switches from Ciena, in order to provide a reliable, high-capacity packet network.
