7 September 2011

SPEC, the non-profit Standard Performance Evaluation Corp., has announced that the company had launched SPECsip_Infrastructure2011 that represents a new benchmark developed to evaluate performance of SIP servers.
SPECsip_Infrastructure2011 is based on a proxy server that models a VoIP deployment for service providers, telcos and enterprises. Within the solution’s workload, customers emulate the common behavior of users receiving and sending SIP traffic. The basic metric for SPECsip_Infrastructure will measure the simultaneous number of supported subscribers at the same time meeting quality of service (QoS) requirements.
This new benchmark can be used by testers, developers, purchasing decision-makers and performance analysts.
SIP software vendors can deploy SPECsip_Infrastructure2011 in order to evaluate and improve performance of server products; hardware vendors will benefit to determine the functionality of their servers with VoIP workloads.
